Yesterday the CEL was on during my trip to work, but haven't noticed anything was different, it still stayed on at night after work, but I still managed to drive it back home from work (~45km), drive ability was as usual. I plunged the OBD reader on and got P2188 as the code, according to resources.......

* MAF sensor malfunctioning, was predicted from my assumption base on the various causes, since I have a F5 CAI, and I had a touch-less car wash few days ago. I erased the code and was fine for half day. It just came back on tonight. Could be some moist build up in the tube and malfunctioning the sensor. I will try to blow dry the tubings and sensors tomorrow to see if it works.

Anyone has more insights about this OBD code? My damn warranty was just expired 2 weeks ago.........Arghhhhh..........

I'm not 100% sure but I think this code is similar to the P2187 that I had on my car a while ago.

I had Mazda check my 2008 Mazda3 and they needed to replace the Purge Valve and they said it was a "known" problem. It was covered under warranty.

Does this have anything to do with the maf sensor wires? I hear a common problem with the F5 is that it puts stress on the maf sensor wires because its being stretched to reach the intake. Check to see if its stretched or if one of the wires is malfunctioning.

yup thats ur prob there the wire are to short and the get pulled right out of the socket

quick fix go to a scrap yard and grab a MAF sensor off any mazda and cut it off with plenty of wire left then cut ur stock one off splice the new sensor on and ur all fixed up the most it would cost is $20 (for the sensor from scrap yard) if u know how to do the wiring

i had the CEL on too before after a wash or a rainy day. went to mazda and they snap the zip tie that held the wire harness and wala no CEL anymore since. hope that helps
