Mazda lock nuts suck. The key is already slipping so I can't use the locks any more. Don't bother buying them !!

I've never had a problem with them. How were they put on? Hand torqued or impact gun?

If they used an impact gun they're a bitch to get off. But if a torque wrench was used it's easy as pie. It's not the lugs being badly made, it's dealers over tightening the ****ing things.

+1 they are shit.

I had to heat mine red because it did not want to come off anymore. Get after market if you think it's worth it. I don't bother anymore.

hahaha your problems are just starting :chuckle

I think it's just the key is really soft and if you rotate your tires a lot then it will slowly strip away until you can't get it off. They always say to do the key nut last and not doing it on the gun would be best. i had to torch mine and torches around alloy's is not good!

The Mazda locks are aftermarket. Check the paperwork that came with them, made by McGuard, supposed to be pretty good.

^^ good point. I have the original packaging for the lock nuts. I should check what brand it is.

I'm not sure about the Mazda3 lock nuts but I never had a problem with my RX8 lock nuts. I swapped the summer tires to winter tires myself for 3 years without any issues.

As well, if the shop installs it with an impact wrench, it's a pain to get off if you'r doing it yourself. I have an Accord where they serviced my front brakes during the winter. When I was swapping the tires out to summer, I was going crazy with the 2 front rims as the lock nuts were on so tight. I have an impact wrench at home and even that was useless. I had use the old fashion way, "shear human strength".

If it was tighted with a torque wrench to the proper specs, then it should come off pretty easy.

I just did my buddy's A3 and it was so easy using my impact wrench.

Funny, I never had a problem until last weekend. My locks have been fine, but last weekend I put on my summers, and on the ground I noticed this little black metal thing. When I picked it up I realized that it was the part of the key from inside that has the pattern on it (don't know the name of it). I never dropped the key (ever), so I surprised that the patterned piece fell out. I managed to get it back in and got my wheels on, and now I'm looking for new wheel locks.

Can any sponsors here do a gb for wheel locks?

Yup complain to McGaurd. They make about 50% off all the OEM wheel lock sets out there.

The lock nuts on our MZ3 literally fell apart after two years (7 of the 16). I purchased another set and so far those have been perfect. They broke apart when swapping rims/tires.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get a set of lock nuts myself. I dont wanna get them from Mazda. I was in Canadian Tire the other day and when I got to the wheel lock section I saw a whole bunch of different types and sizes. I'm lookin to get the McGuard ones. Any one know which ones to get (eg. if you have the number on the packaging). Thanks

Btw. I have the 17" alloy stock rims.

the size of your tire doesn't matter, its just the threads per inch of the stud. and length of it, cause I have seen closed nuts that where too short for the stud, and the top popped off.

I just warn, lock nuts will deter some thiefts, but not all, they sell at crappy tire, sockets that are designed to take off lock nuts if you lost the key, or damaged it.

it all depends on what type of mazda lock you get. out of all of them, there is 1 design that is really bad. that one gets chewed up, and slips easily. its the one that looks like a triangle. the rest are all good.

Well so far (knock on wood), I've had no problems with my lock nutts. My ride is just over a year old and I haven't had any problems. Yes, they are McGuard as I still have the packaging for them.

I've been using McGard lock nuts for years and have never had a problem (except losing a key once!).

The proper torque specs are like 65-85 ft lbs I believe. If they are torqued correctly and only hand tools are used, they shouldn't get damaged.

had mcguard lock nuts on all four of my mazdas, never had a problem. Only time I had a problem was when MARKHAM MAZDA and DOWNTOWN MAZDA (those lazy a$$ muthaf******) over torqued them. DO NOT GO TO DOWNTOWN MAZDA OR MARKHAM MAZDA.
