I ordered a 2008 Mazda 3 about 10 days ago and have been waiting for the installation of various options. The dealer tells me today that the 6 CD changer has been pulled from the market. Has anyone heard this? He's "guessing" that it is because there is no demand for it. How can that be??
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

That's news to me. Don't know how much stock I'd put into that statement. Definately a question for the dealers on here though.

not AFAIK... why would they...
Are you putting in an oem 6 disk player in place of the oem one that comes with the car?
Next question, is this something you had them agree to putting in as part of the deal?

Thanks for your replies. I should have specified that I ordered the Mazda3 GS model. I ended up calling Mazda Canada head office. They were very helpful and told me the 6 CD changer is not available on the GX or the GS model, only the GT. Unfortunately, when you go to Mazda.ca, and build your own Mazda, the option is available for all models. The contact I spoke with said that the website was incorrect in that respect. great - get us all excited with options we can't have.
Now - the 6 CD Changer was part of the deal we signed at Downtown Mazda. To say I'm disgruntled that they would outright lie and say that it was pulled from the market makes me uneasy to say the least. Don't you think the salesman would be aware what was available for all models? Considering the exorbitant cost of the changer and the installation, does the fact that they offered something that didn't exist make the deal null and void?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, The Biz, it was the CD player I THOUGHT came with the car, not an alternate one.

I'd say that yes, if you wanted to walk away from the deal because of this, then you could certainly do so.
Of course, if you still want the car, this should be a way to negotiate the price down some more. At the very least, they should take off the amount that was added to put in the changer, and then maybe a little more to compensate for the dissatisfaction and misinformation from the salesman.

It's possible that Mazda has chosen to use yet another supplier for the factory head units on non GT models and as such don't have access to a compatible changer module.
I know that Sanyo made the head unit for the 2006 GT and it was NOT Sanyo who made the head unit for the 2005 GT, so who knows really.

Wait a sec, if I read correctly. You are purchasing a car from DOWNTOWN MAZDA!?!?!?
Walk AWAY.... RUN if they start pulling you back.
That place will go OUT of their way to rip you off. I'm speaking from personal experience. I can almost guarantee that you will be unhappy with the service and the way they handle their customers as well as the cars they do service on.
I've had such a bad experience from Markham Mazda and Downtown Mazda that I've promised myself to spread the word on these two dealerships. Its a personal vendetta.
