Well today the wife called and said the car won't start. She turned the key and nothing happened. All the lights were working. So I showed up and tried and the same thing, turn the key and nothing. So I ended up calling road side assistance. the car was at Middlefield and Mcnicol. They asked if I wanted to go to the one on finch and Markham rd. or Markham Mazda. Well with hesitation I went with Markham Mazda. So a flat bed showed up and towed her.
I knew that this happened to a few guys on the forum, just wanted to know what was the verdict?

with me it was my alarm. I short circuited the bypass and it wouldnt recognise my 2 keys. Do you have an after market alarm system?

Let us know what the dealer finds Steve.
Could be many factors.

this happened to me recently.....all the lights come on but does not crank. after i let it sit overnight it fires up again like it didn't have a problem the night before. car does not stall when running. i removed my indy fog mod and the car is happy again. i am not sure if that was the culprit. it hasn't done it again since.

Happened to me in waterloo ... something with my batter/after-market alarm. All the lights would turn on but slowly dim after a few seconds, and the car wouldn't even crank.

Well I just called the dealer and guess what, it started. So they couldn't isolate the problem. The service adviser “Eric" said that they had a similar problem a month ago, he said it was the selector switch for the transmission. The transmission would think it’s in reverse even though it’s in park, therefore it wouldn't start. He said if it happens again put it in neutral and see if it starts .He said they will check all wires,, battery and hook it up to the computer to see if anything shows up.
I’m hoping that they find something……

Is this an automatic? I've seen this before where you move the selector through the gears and corrects what you've stated above with the car thinking it is in reverse or something.
Other posts have pointed to a worn down key not registering with the car's computer.

i get this problem in when its very cold outside. in park(auto) the motor wont crank. i just slab it into neutral and it fires up just fine
This has happened to me twice:
2006 Mazda 3 (used)
I had only had the car for two days when ...
First time was when I went into the car and tried to start it. Nothing happened, lights were on but when I tried to start it it was silent. I don't remember changing anything, but I was in the middle of calling my friend (who's a mechanic) while holding the key down to try and start the engine and it just all of a sudden started. No noise ... engine just vroomed, was very quiet.
Second time I stalled (Had only driven a standard a handful of times so was still/and still am new at it) one car away from an intersection. Same thing ... tried to start no sound. Tried again for 20 min and nothing ... tow came and left it for the dealer. They kept it for 3 days and they said they couldn't find anything wrong ... every time they tired to start it, it worked. They tried stalling it on purpose and still it worked. They tested the starter and everything and they said everything was cool.
they think its an electrical problem ... apparently they like to work and not work whenever they want and they can't detect a problem if everythings working. You have to catch it at the right time. Suck but what can I do.
So I took it back and since then (its been about a week) everythings been fine. Just hoping it doesn't happen again.
