View Full Version : Weird Noise
So i was out with some friends and we parked on top of a parking garage roof, and we were standing by my car and it made this hissing noise like pressure was being released from somewhere. The car was off and had been off for a good 5 - 10 mins. Ever heard of this?? This doesnt usually happen but i think its happened in the past once or twice.

Hey hood....the noise you hear is the pressure relief valve inside the compressor....its a normal noise that can be heard after the car is shut off....sometimes is is louder than others....depends on the aimbient temp and how long the a/c has been on.....Its what is sometimes called a "hot soak" pressure build up
kinda a 'psssssssssssssst....psst psst...psssst' noise....scares the shit out of yah when your working on a motor and you have your head beside the compressor and that happens!
If you think it is something other than what I described, get it looked at...but sounds to me like your describing something that is normal after sitting for 5-10 mins. It was probably amplified by being in an underground parking area too, where sounds are louder and echo

yup when eveileric posted i didnt thnk it was that becuase i never use my AC but to my surprise when i got in my car the AC was on. My friend musta turned it on, and thats the sound it made. I guess ill just leave it and if anything gets worse than ill just bring it to the dealer
thanks for the help

Just remember you a/c will run when ever your mode switch is switched to defrost wether or not you have the a/c button turned on.

That's correct. It's still on but it doesn't tell you. If you do a search you will find more threads on this.
