I have a 12 inch sub with rockford amp. Lately it seems like the sub will come on and off. I've checked all wiring and everything seems fine. Also my amp came with a bass control knob; that seems to only work sometimes too.
Do I have an amp problem?

If both the sub and bass control know are working sporadically I would say the amplifier is the cause. Do you know whether the amp is going into some sort of protection mode?

I've checked all the wiring and the culprit seems to be where I connect the two 8 gauge wires to the sub. My sub has a Push down thing and then you insert the positive and negative.
It seems like there's a contact problem there?

You mean they have guillotine connectors on the RF subs now? :complain
...if thats the case make sure you've spliced enough wire to get full contact but not enough so you can see any bare wire exposed outside the connectors (could cause shorting).Another thing; check the gain, it might be set too high~overrunning the amp....just a couple of possibilities!

I spliced a brand new strand so that shoudln't be an issue it seems as if there is a contact issue though. The gain should be fine as I've messed around with that before.

For some reason my bass control knob stopped working today too :(

Sounds like your amp is messed up. Is it under warranty?

Well I got it from Best Buy about 2 years ago now so I think warranty is over, but the knob started working again. I think I have some sort of connection problem that I don't know how to figure out.

Yesterday I pretty much tightened all connections after that I was pounding the sub and now it no longer works. Power still goes to the amp but not working.
Do I need a capacitor with? It's just one 12 inch.

No you don't need a cap.

As CWP said you definately do not need a cap. So after you tightened everything it stopped working, or it worked for a while then stopped working?

Found the problem finally, sub is fine , amp is fine. It was the bass controller knob that connects to my amp that was causing all the trouble.
