I'm looking at buying a 2008.5 GT. I'm actually in Ottawa, but I have a question about Mazda's iPod adapter option that some in the big pool of Toronto Mazda-ites may be able to answer.
I was talking briefly with a dealer here, and when I mentioned the iPod adapter he said they had recently done one, and it had been rather pricey. He checked and came up with an installed price of over $800! Now some of that will be the installation time at some huge nominal hourly rate which could be made to melt away as part of a deal, but he was also fairly sure that it involved three parts from Mazda. The Mazda website for the 2008.5 shows an "i-Pod Adapter2", which also requires the "i-Pod Adapter2 Harness Kit", but I can't see any possible third piece.
It could be that one of these came in two boxes and that's what they were thinking of. But Mazda shows those as $189 and $116, which would be something like $365 after tax. I can't imagine they had that much labour figured in there, so it does seem like they might have had a third component in the calculation. It's probably just a goof, and I'll get back to them to break out in detail exactly what went into that calculation, but is there anyone who's taken Mazda's iPod option and can confirm the pieces needed?
Also, the new iPod Adapter2 for the 2008.5 can now display song/artist text. Is it otherwise similar to what is described at http://mazdaipodadapter.ca/en/index.htm. That's the best I can find for documentation on its capabilities. I can't seem to find an iPod adapter as an option on the Mazda USA site, which might explain the lack of info on it. Is it really a Canada-only option?
