Hey I was inspired by vlad idea for this mount. I hate to fact to stick velcro on my driver vent so figured an alternative.
Here are the products:
Gator clips
Small big thread screw
Plastic margerine top
Velcrohttp://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s147/mleblond/ap/DSC01522.jpg?t=1212113683
Tool's required:
Exacto knife.
put the velcro on the becel top and cut around it with the knife like so:

Next screw in the middle and stick the velcro on top and into the plastic handle of the gator clip.

Stick the velcro on:

Clips on when the vent is open like this so you can move it to adjust the angle.

In Action:

Next step is to reroute the usbcable and maybe put it through the vent if that is possible...
Comments?
I Guess this is almost like a How to? Mods can move if you think it's appropriate. The only thing is there could be tons of ways to mount this ap.

Wow 40+ views and no comments?
I decided to do this because my car is parked in the sun and the velcro would probably melt :chuckle

Looks neat when its installed. I would not like to see the cicrle in the vent, when the ap is not there. But then again you're keeping your vent still operating and you can remove it when you're not using the ap so its all good. :)
Is it solid there with that alligator clip holding the ap ? I know it weights almost nothing but with the road vibrations I would not like to see if fly all over the place when I drive.

Solid I would give it a 7/10
Only problem i found was that because it mounts on the part that opens and closes the vent you need to position the vent for it so it moves side to side and not up and down. That said it allows you to position the AP at the angle you want.
I took it for a test drive and it holds fine. I have a autocross event on sunday. I will see it it holds that test :)

nice DIY job!
I can somewhat picture how it holds but of course, I think it's something I need to see it actually clips to the vent.
I did the velcro thing for now...1) when I'm on track, I'll have my windows open, 2) other times, I'll most likely keep it "unmounted", 3) thinking about a boost gauge.
having it in the car now, I understand how dangerous it really is...lol...as I'm always glancing over seeing if it does this or that....the way I figure it, I'll never have my car tuned to the point where I need a third eye to keep an eye out...but a boost gauge is way cool!
Are you thinking about Vlad's thinner-wire retractable USB cable? any other ideas on hiding the mount (relocate ODB2 plug? reroute usb cable?).
Also noob question: how do you remove that panel to get at the back of the ODB2 plug?

thanks.
I too have my window down on the track so I will see how it holds but honestly I don't think I have time to look at it as it goes soooo fast.
Rerouting should be easy. There's a manual online for the 3. I downloaded the iso file at home so it tells you how every piece on the car is mounted. You may want to find that download but I think it just needs to remove the bottom screw and pry it out.

My non industrial quarter-size strength velcro (2 piece) held well as well this wknd when I was at track school...I'm more concerned about heat now then my awesome cornering forces...lol...

Yeah reason for the clip is so I can take it off when parked so I don't have to bother about the heat
