Hey guys,
I just recently bought my Mazda 3. It is an auto 2005 with 40000km.
I never noticed it when I went to test drive it, but I hear it ALOT now; especially since I am listening for it. I am referring to a "clanking" noise when I start my car. At first I thought it was the fact the battery was on its way out causing the starter to have to work overtime to turn the flywheel. I changed my battery and still makes noise. FWI, underload, the old battery was like 7v under load. Could a bad battery have damaged my starter? The car started every time without much hesitation.
I was told by my mechanic (he didn't look into it fully as I didn't have time) that I could have a cracked flywheel...? I guess it sounds accurate since the noise isn't always noticeable. Sometimes it is really loud and other times faint...
After the car is started there are no problems. If it is the flywheel or the starter, would it be covered under the 5 year power train warranty? (my bumper to bumper is expired)
Thanks
