LMAO... ask them if they sell the sync oil.

There is a lot of information on the net regarding oils. In doing some research there are many benefits to be had by switching to a synthetic oil.

I switched to Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 on my last change at 50,000 km's. From what I researched it contains the best additive pack of the Group III oils. So far all is good. I'm sure I will see more of a difference during the cold winter months regarding cold starting.

Here is a quote from a source regarding a question I had asked about this.

The difference between a Grp III and Grp IV oil is it's feedstock. Grp III uses mineral oil...i.e. crude oil that is extracted from the ground. Grp III base stock is heavily hydrocracked to produce molecules a close as possible to the same size...Pennzoil Platinum is the best of this group IMO. Grp IV and V are man-made base stocks consisting of chemical compounds not present in crude oil but are artificially made from other compounds. These usually consist of poly-alpha-olefin (PAO, Grp IV) and esters (Grp V) that includes diesters, polyolesters, alklylated napthlenes, alkyklated benzenes, etc.

Like I said, Pennzoil Platinum is a great choice for a Grp III oil...if you want a "true syn", you will have to go with Amsoil ASL 5W-20 (PAO based) or Red Line 5W-20 (ester based). Of the two, Red Line would be my choice here.

I didn't go to Red Line or Amsoil as they are about $13 per quart. Too expensive for me.

Good Luck.

Mazda 3s, don't need Synthetic engine oil. Soon enough you may want to switch to high mileage engine oil though

Bad wording on my part, I meant at like 130K or maybe even higher.

i always run full synthetic in everything i have own...you get better mpg by using full synthetic.

I will be putting royal purple synthic oil in my mazda 3 when i hit 14 000km. I am going to wait as i get one free oil change from the dealer when i bought the car and after that i will be changing it my self with only royal purple synthic oil.

Not many cars actually "need" synthetic oil. But I do know that it makes a huge difference. I have seen first hand the difference in my transmission in very cold weather and how much easier the engine turns over as well. I will be switching our 08.5 over to the Pennzoil Platinum also, after the first 2 free oil changes.

Research, and choose an oil that you trust and that is readily available. Any Group III Synthetic will be a good choice over conventional oil IMO. I have used the Mobile 1 and Castrol Syntec in some previous cars and never had any problems there either.

57k
No problems
16k
Mobil1 5W 20 (will be switching to Royal Purple next oil change).

You should have no problems switching to synthetic at your mileage, but I would suggest you have the engine flushed clean before installing the syn oil.
Personally I feel if you plan on keeping your vehicle long term synthetic is a must, it will protect your engine much better than conventional, especially during cold starts and I believe you also get the full potential from your engine at all times, ie; power and fuel savings.

It costs more but its worth every penny :)

I've done three oil changes since I bought the car, I should have only done one by mileage, but as I normally only do short trips, and I've only done less than 10k in the year, I feel better doing it more often

I run Amsoil synthetic 5w20. I change it every 5000km because thats what I've always done. I buy it locally for $7.45 a bottle (1qt.). Seems good. Seen many tests and it is best performing of oils so thats what I run.

I'm no oil expert, but have been slightly educated about Group 3 and 4...Pennzoil Plat (grp 3) is what I'll be trying next as the additive pkg is good and less likely to be fuel-diluted for my direct-injection engine, I p/u 10 bottles as they're on sale now...I'm using Mobil1 now, and ever since they became widely available in stores...

I tried looking for German Castrol (grp 4) yesterday at the CDN Tire, but they didn't have much left and they're 0w30...when I was younger, I would chase to different stores to collect whatever stock they have left of the oil of my choice...now my priority is finding an easily available synth oil at a good price with good usage for my particular engine...

for those interested, you should really chk out "bob the oil guy"...google it..

Why Redline ?

Mazda Oil = Petro Canada = Really Good Oil.

If anyone interested in Amsoil products please let me know.

I am switching next year when i get the turbo, but for now the car runs fine on standard motor oil so no point in switching. I find it odd sometimes that people say "I get better mileage from sythetic and it's a better cost" because honestly when you weigh the two together, it's actually more expensive for the synthetic and for not that much of a MPG increase. The one true advantage is, however, it is MUCH better for the engine.

nope. Will leave them at the standard 8k. I'm sure Mazda oil is good, but car is at 80K, felt it was a good time to go full Synthetic.

so don't waste your money on Redline ...

Or Amsoil 5w20 ...
if u wanna go really good go with 0w20 Amsoil 100$ syntehtic IV
