Hello everyone, I just bought a 2004 Mazda 3 GS sedan for the wife and it seems that when we start the car and turn on the A/C, dust blows out of the vents? Has anyone ever experiences this? It only last a second or so but with the dark interior it leaves smal dust particles. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are a few more issues too, (I'll be contacting that person about the rust issue in Sudbury I think) I should be a good test subject too as the car has 160,000 km on it.

Thanks for your help,

KC

was that car a rental before?, anyways looks like you need servicing of your ac with that mileage....so if you dnt have extended warranty on it, guess thats out of your pocket....if u dnt mind how much did u paid for the car?

Is the cabin air filter in the car, maybe that was removed and never replaced before you bought your car.

I just replaced my cabin air filter myself last week and found out that my car does'nt have any! I have an 05 sedan gt. It has the frame (plastic) 2 of them but does'nt have the usual pleated filter. I read somewhere on this board (not sure) dealers will put in a new filter for $20 plus the cost of the filter ($50+ w/ TM3 discount - thanks to Joe -- MoT). I thought it was easy, but managed to put in the new ones after like 3 hours (w/ 2 CEL's in the process).

I have a 05 and no cabin filter. I get the same thing when I turn the fan on. Nothing to do with the A/C. My wife parks near a factory that builds wooden stairs and at times I see small wooden chips blow out of the vents. Guess the factories exhaust at times over fills and blows saw dust onto near by cars.

A cabin filter should fix your problem. All 04-early 05 models do not come with a cabin air filter.

It was not a rental as far as I can tell. Only one owner on the history report. I paid $8750.00 before tax for the car and it came with a 2 year warranty (engine, tranny, etc)

Wow, from what I am reading that air filter install can be a real problem. And it looks like the photos are no longer there. As much as I want to try things, I end up screwing them up. Almost every time something goes wrong. I see it took one person 3 hours. That means it will take me 5. And to do it every 15000 miles. It's my wife's car, we may just see if she can put up with breathing dust. LOL. I may take it to a dealer to give it a once over to be comfortable with what I bought. Thanks for all the input.
