Interesting article about the gas stations - not making much money with high gas prices. Not sure how much sympathy we're supposed to give them.

I read an article some place where the oil rich arabs CANT understand why the price of oil is so high... its such a scam all the tax thats pumped into gas prices its brutal!
The rest of the world has dept with high gas prices for decades though.. they still drive... life goes on.

As far as the actual stations that sell the gas... dont feel sorry for them at all... its not like there are alot of multi millionaire gas pumpers out there.. they knew what they were getting into gas prices have been going up since the first pretrolium powered engine lol.
wonder if mazda is coming up w/ a hybrid type engine.
even with these insane gas prices, people are still driving around in stupidly big SUV's and trucks that they really don't need, and driving them aggressively too. I don't know how people can afford it.
obviously the prices aren't high enough yet for people to care.

well not everyone can rapidly take their suv's that they purchased years ago and dump them for a regular brand new sedan
you can't expect ppl to magically throw out all their large/midsize vehicles for new ones that are more gas efficient
it's like trying to tell a 80 yr old senior who's driving an 1980 buick to somehow scrounge up enough money to get a brand new civic.
it's not gonna happen easily for ppl who are already committed or do not have the financial resources to make the switch. ppl should stop projecting their expectations and standards of living onto others who aren't in the same boat
the suv's and trucks you do see out there are owned by those who DO HAVE money or who just like to throw money out the window... they could care less about the gas they are burning because they can afford it. let them live the way they do.
the article does have a lot of facts. you can't blame the gas companies for raising prices at the pump because they have to pay more for the crude oil. maybe i should work for free because the ppl that want to buy my company's services/goods are unable to purchase it.... sure they are making tons of money... but that's cuz we keep using tons of gas... if someone can find me an article that shows that GAS CONSUMPTION WENT DOWN last year... then i'll buy into the fact that these companies are reaping ALL the profits of the increase price on gas.
remember their profits are a dependant on VOLUME + pricing.
and personally ppl need to stop complaining about gas prices
it's a fact of life like taxes and death.
no one is gonna sell themself for free just so someone else can benefit from it. the gas companies are not a not for profit organization, and to be fair, they are earning the same margins if not less just to accomodate the population.
even if u drive a fuel efficient vehicle ur still paying 1.35 a litre... you just use less... conceptually ur still getting ripped off. so live with it. complain to the city planners that planned north america's cities and streets that urban sprawl has ruined our way of life and caused us to be dependant on cars.
we are a victim of our own choices and choices of our ancestors who took ALL THIS land for granted.
the only way to change is for our governments to really take a command in mass transit, adding tolls, building roads
we are far too deep right now to get out of this by ourselves as consumers.
anyways this is just my opinion. no one should be complaining about gas prices. i think it's a good thing and hopefully it will stay high and go higher and we can see a revolution in the way we travel. hopefully new technologies will emerge and there will be enough buy in that it can achieve mass acceptance.
it'd be nice to say we lived in an era where we eliminated the typical gasoline combustion engine.

People don't buiy cars EVERY year.
If you got an SUV 3 years ago... you might still keep it for 3 more years... its not an instant reaction. I am sure you know that but wanted to point it out.

Good points Icarus.
We are on the same page. Only problem with being in the era that makes such a change is that sooner or later the population has to bite that initial bullet. No one wants to be a part of it. And no political party wants to be the one to pull the proverbial trigger. Look at all the tax in the gas prices. If your party is making that much money off it why would you cut that revenue stream? The money would have to come from some pleace else and I don't even care to calculate how much money is actually generated because I am sure it would make me roll my eyes more than once.

totally agreed.
that's the biggest hurdle and one party is going to have to really committ to it
and then we'll have to let the population decide on voting for that party
personally my #1 priority is to work as close as home as possible
avoid being a victim of urban sprawl and long commuttes
i know this isin't an option for everyone
but it's always something to keep your eyes open for if possible
it improves everyones life, most importantly your own.

I do realize this, however it cannot be denied how many of them we see on the roads.
more to the point though is the way people drive them. Too fast and too aggressively, which does not help their already horrible consumption.
anyways.. this is off topic slightly... sorry
