Hey,
anyone know what condition your tires have to be in for a lease return? Obviously not bald, but is there a certain percentage?
Also, can I return it with summers? or does it have to be all seasons?

Aside from scratches and dents, the biggest repair costs will most likely be:
- Glass damage. Any cracks and the windshield will need to be replaced. A broken fog light will need to be replaced.
- Tires. All tires must be the same size and have at least 3.2 mm of tread.
- Missing parts. Extra Keys, Extra Remotes, Jack, Mats, Manuals etc.
- Any mechanical repairs. Add about $500 to the bill if your check engine light is on.
- Excess kms.

they dont..
that's why i need new tires. i'm almost at the wear bars. and they've only been through 2 summers. i have a set of winters that are on for 4-5 months of the year haha.
should've got new tires a long time ago
if i were u, i will just bring the car back with whatever thread left. everyone knew RSA can only last 40000km. and dealer wont even check ur tires.

they will check, and they will charge you for replacements (unless you have Wear Care or whatever it's called).
Buy some used tires with at least 4/32nds of an inch tread and you will be fine.

mazda will have a contracted 3rd party inspect your car prior to the lease return date and they are going to check
i have the guy coming to inspect my car on monday and my tires are borderline - they are below 4/32" (3.2mm) in spots but pretty damn close in the middle
so if you want - i'll let you know how thorough the inspection is...i.e. does he just do a visual inspection of the tires or if he actually gets down and measure tread depths...

really?!...thats suck. when i returned my car last time, they just looked at the body and read the odd. meter. so most likely everyone need to replace the stock tires after lease then, thats not fair.

kamikaze - i just went thru the pre-return inspection...its pretty comprehensive...he looked at a lot of things that i didn't think he would check
anyways, he measures tread depth in one spot right in the middle of the tire....and does it on all four
what's interesting to know is that if you are below 4/32" they charge $125 per tire....so its not like you are paying full pop for a goodyear RSA
so if you're at the wear bars i would still go and find some used tires ($125 x 4 = $500)

Could you elaborate more on what things you didn't think he was going to check?
Could you elaborate more on what things you didn't think he was going to check?
you know, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a sticky so people know what to expect when returning a lease under this new inspection process...
the overall process took about 20-30 minutes
here is what happened:
he starts car and lets it idle - checks for any CEL
checked to see that all 4 power windows and moonroof worked
while idling - he popped hood and checked oil
took a good look at rims
measured tread depth on all four tires in the centre
checked to see that all 4 tires matched and were v rated
checked glove box for owners manual
checked upholstery for burns, rips etc
recorded mileage
checked trunk for spare and jack
checked headlights and signals
looked over body for dents and scratches
checked windshield for cracks etc
took out this gizmo that measures paint depths on all body panels to check for bondo and to see if panels have been repainted
tooks several pics of car and of all 4 wheels
afterwards he prints off the final deficiency report and you sign
he then says that car has now been inspected and when car is returned to dealer they will just do a walk around to check for any additional collision damage that may have occured between the inspection date and return date and they will write down the mileage and check for owners manual and the spare key...
any questions - please ask
