Hey everyone,

Last week on the 407, a stone came flying at my windshield, the very next day I saw a tiny crack. Figured I would go get a spot repair at Apple or even one of those places to fill the hole, but my worst fears happened yesterday.

Got in the car, and to my shock, this tiny pin sized crack has spidered to almost 4 inches.....

Does anyone know what options I may have and the costs associated?

I asked at Scarborough Mazda last week for my 2yr service and they said it was not covered by the warantee. (no surprise there)

I'm fearing that because I have the auto wipers, this may be expensive. Not sure if I should suck it up and pay or go through insurance.

Any thoughts? Makes me sick seeing this crack..........please help.

Car is a 2006 3 GT

Many thanks!

Unfortunately what happened to you has happened to MANY members on this board.

Yes, getting a new windshield is expensive, but I think that is your only option.

Some prices/options/advice about insurance for you in this link.

Make sure you get an OEM Mazda windshield.

I would put it through insurance if your deductible is significantly less than the repair bill (mine is $0, so I don't fear cracked windshields). Such damage is not considered driver-at-fault, so you are at no risk of increased premiums or penalties by putting it through insurance.

you sure about that?? i have never heard of $0 deductible on comprehensive...as a matter of fact, mine was $100 until i recently found out it has been raised to $300 as part of some government initiative to lower insurance rates in general...i had no choice in the matter (so i was told).

$300 isn't bad. Mine was $500 which was more than the damn windshield so I just paid out of pocket. Problem is if you go through insurance, it's a claim. It may not affect your rates but if you have too many of them you may get red flagged.

all they will do is raise your deductible at some point if they see you are making too many comp claims...they are not going to raise your premiums for filing a claim for a windshield

I ended up getting one for just under $300. Has a nice tint on the top which is blue (matches the paint)

It has the rain sensor and everything, no complaints at all.

I dredded going through insurance, so this worked excellent for me.

Where did you go for that?

I actually got a recomendation from a friend, met the guy in one of those parking lot set ups. (It is an actual business)

But I gave him 1/2, then the next day he received the ordered special windshield with the rain sensor and all. I left the car with him, it took him just under 2.5 hours, and I am very pleased.

I am going to the Rush concert tonight, but I'll check for the guys card & website.

Great job, and since I'm going on vacation next week ($$) I didn't have a ton of cash to drop, so this solution worked for me.

I had a stone chip that I found out while washing my car yesterday. Its a very small chip and only on the outside - has not gone through the entire glass. I am worried wether I should do anything or just leave it alone since its on the outside.
