Exhaust weirdness

Hey everyone,

I have a new 08.5 GS and I've noticed that the exhaust sounds louder than I think it should. I took it to a dealer, but they said they could find no exhaust leaks. It's only loud when I'm pressing the accelerator, not if I'm just coasting/slipping the clutch.

Something that may be related is that occasionally when I shift, I will hear a sort of rattling sound. Not a loud rattle like something is about to fall off (I used to drive a POS with a serious rattling problem) but just loud enough to notice it. My girlfriend describes it as "it sounds like the car is coughing."

I'm going to make another appointment at the dealership, but does anyone know of a specific reason for any of this? Or is it normal?

i've notice the same problem on my car...but i also couldn't find out whats wrong with it...

When I was at the dealership we compared my car with another 3 from the lot, and they sounded the same, so I think it's perfectly normal. One of the employees suggested (and I agreed) that I'm just paranoid because of the problems I had with my previous car ;)

I found the same when I got my car. The difference for me is that I had 2.0L, and my 3 is a 2.3L. Oh, mine sounds louder when I press the accelerator too! :chuckle

As someone who used to have a performance Exhaust on their previous car, I kind of like the noisy exhaust :)
