View Full Version : New problem with my car. Clicking sound as I am driving
Hi There
Drove the car on the highway today and noticed a clicking sound that sounds like when the automatic headlights come on. It has been doing this off and on all day.
Anyone have an idea what it is?? HELLP MY CAR IS GOING TO BLOW UP :chuckle

Is it a constant sound that varies with the speed you are traveling? If so, you may have a pebble stuck in the tread of your tire.
No. It is coming from the inside. Since I am old and senile, I forgot that it actually started yesterday. I think the car hates me ;)

Where in the car is the sound coming from?
Somewhere in the front. Sounds like in the dash but I am not 100% sure

Is the ticking repetative or totally random? The reason I ask is there is a TSB for the windshield cowl. It can make an annoying ticking with little vibrations to the car, etc. I had it really bad when it was colder but it has subsided lately with the warmer weather.
I'm not sure what else it could be without actually being there to hear it.
The TSB is that something I can get the dealer to do?
It just started Friday. Sounds like when the Auto headlights come on but it keeps making the noise.

Does it happen in rain as well? If I remember correctly, the crowl noise subsides in wet weather.
Has not been raining since the noise started

Do you have an aftermarket alarm/starter?
And wondering if it could be the compressor for the A/C? It never did this sound before but maybe it is on its way out.
I think it might be the seatbelt. Drove around my small street a bit not wearing the belt and did not hear it. When I put it back on on Mulock drive, I heard it again.
lol i have this same problem, i have ticking from my seatbelt, glove compartment(it was ticking so i just tested random things, opened the glove and left it open, it stopped) and i think there was a lose screw under the dash on the passenger side. What can i do with the dealer to address this problem? It comes and goes..been to Markham mazda several times about it. Sadly it's random so it comes and goes.
they must think i'm crazy

If it is a repetitive ticking, I wonder if it is a bad switch that is shorting when the seat belt sensor is engaged?

I am afraid that Mazda of Toronto will think I am crazy too. It is exactly the same problem I am afraid. Best to just boost up my music :)

i drive an 07 hatch i have some click as well
sounds kind of like a switch clicking or something but more into the engine bay than in the dash. very intermittent...maybe similar to a click like when a cars fan would engage (but no the fan isnt turning on)
i actually cant describe it...im going driving now and will try to get a better feel for it

I hear a light ticking sound (intermittent) as I'm going to a stop at around 10kmh coming from the front driver side. I doubt it's suspension issues because the ground is perfectly flat and only happens on light braking. I don't hear it when braking hard. but I don't want to brake hard all the time :chuckle any of this familiar with anyone? thanks

Only under braking? Are your brakes oem or aftermarket? Have you made any recent changes to your car?
I would check to see if there are any grooves carved into your rotors. Also check to see if there's anything caught in your brake pads.
Otherwise, I'm wondering if there's something wrong with your cv. If you have time I would say take it in and have it looked at.

yes only when braking.. and not all the time. only recent were springs done 2 months ago. gonna try to take the wheels off later when I get home to see what's up with that ticking sound. wierd. would springs have anything to do with the cv joint?

Hey Bean. You might be correct with the seatbelt noise. I had this last winter. Damn annoying. I drove for a month trying to pin it down. Dealer did something with the seatbelt and it cured it. They did not replace the belt. Maybe just lubed something. Never did find out what they did. No workorder was made for it. But, annoying none the less.

Check the mount point for the seatbelt receptacle.
Check wiring.
Isolate the noise if it's in the seat area or the dash (fuse panel) area.
Could be a relay clicking on and off due to a short or frayed wire.
