Just go here: http://www.youtube.com/user/ArmDrop1320 and search Mazda... you will see 8 runs where I get my ass kicked.

Warning:
This was my first EVER drag and I had, and still have, launch issues. My tires are so bald they don't squeel anymore (just spin) so please don't be too hard on me :chuckle

I think the best I could do is 14.7 but there was no time slips so who knows.

Any tips/tricks is appreciated, I would of imagined a better time but then again I am a novice driver in that category.

Thanks, I did win a few in those videos. But still could not compete enough against the STI and WRX Modded that runs low 12's. the Talon I can maybe beat, it's just I screwed up my launch and missed my third gear on that run :(

They are thinking of doing another event this month. I will go with my stock wheels if I don't get new tires before hand.

the porshe would have trouble against the 700hp+ cars that were there :chuckle

My buddy up in Mtl just got an STI, mildly modded, and he says it's ridiculously fast. Something like 300 at the wheels, and in an all wheel drive, that's like 1200 HP, right? :chuckle

Looked pretty good for a first time out, though. It would be a problem missing gears. But, as with everything, practice makes perfect!

I would think that getting a good start is tough with some guy dropping his arms too

what rpm do you launch at? what was your 60'? whats the trap speed?

I launched my car at autox last week & I found it pretty easy to launch, 2000rpm and quick clutch slip... off you go w/ a little bit of spin and turbo half spooled.

What gear do you finish in? 4th? 5th?

(I wouldn't know since the fastest i've drove my car is 130km/h LOL)

^^^mr. leblond's car is quite a bit harder to launch than yours or mine... ;)

some guy on MSF suggested this for launching our car, since with your power, he said doing it with any rev's will just spin the tires...he said: "Just do what you do on the street, but really fast.." basically roll of idle then mash it...

I tried anything higher than 2000rpm and will spin trough 1st and 2nd giving the other car lots of time to take the lead.

At 2000 or so it felt better but still spins through first.

I will try off idle as it's probably better.....

I finished at 100mph (160kpm) in 5th (just getting into 5th pretty much) I can normally do 180 down that stretch on the track so I think im losing all my time in my launch because I normally catch up to the cars as soon as I hit 3rd gear

lol... why is it bad losing to a honda?

watch for a blue 07 si coupe there. That car looks stock but is not. He ran 13.13 and now he got the reflash and got a little more done, he's aiming for under 13.

drag is totally different type than autox, its power vs grip game. you might/have to get 2 drag tire for the front, maybe just 16" rims. your baby can do under 12sec with ur setup plus the new tires.

Thanks

I think I really underestimated the value of good tires while it must be the most important piece for the car to perform. For drag and autox.

Yep but not enough I think. My tires are pretty much dead so i have to drop it if i want some sort of grip. Ive decided to maybe look at getting R888....just need to find the right price :)

^^^same...currently, I can keep up with some cars of similar calibre with R's (road course)...if I can get R's myself, I'm hoping for some serious laptimes and pwnage...

I'm losing grip with 225's on the track...I'm surpised you 215's aren't done already... =) I really want to stuff some serious tires up front, but with the back, it's tough and if I run a reverse staggered set-up, then rotating tires will be impossible...Cobb has 255's upfront...I'll be happy if I get a set of 245's in there...

Ill be getting the 235/45ZR17's R888, our subzero rims are not wide enough for the 255/40ZR17 (requires 8.5-10in wide rims)

dude...I'm hoping on getting the same! If you find a good source (read: good price) lemme know! That or we'll have to run solosprint next yr for the 40% discount...spend $1200 to save ~$450...lol...

since you're from QC, and I suppose you parle francais...maybe you can call Talon Tires and see if they'll do the 2 of us a favour ;)

just do some e-brake turns to balance out the wear on rear tires :chuckle
