So this had to happen to me last night at like... midnight!

Im stopped at a stop sign. I make a left and accel threw first into second. As i hit second my gf looks at me and goes "what was that"? I didnt really hear much with the music up and continued to shift 3,4,5. I get about 10 seconds down the road and my battery light comes on. I pulled over to check and see if the connections were loose. Looked fine so i started back up. Its still on! So i figured ill check when i get home.

I noticed when i started the car back up it sounded funny. I could hear a fan that was really loud. So i tried driving slowly again, and then my tranny light came on!!! So this time i pull right over and shut it off again. Figured somethings serious now. I look under the car for oil, and find a nice bit wet spot of coolant! I pop the hood to find NO belts left on my pulleys. Water pump, ac, counter balance for motor/tranny... all gone!

So i have to get it towed over to mazda today. From what i can see, the water pump must have siezed causing the fluids, and causing the belt to blow off. I found my belt down the road still in 1 solid peice. Weird.

Wow :S that's odd. At least you found out what it was right quick. Hope you're still under warantee.

Sounds like your belt tensioner went south.

Let us know what was the cause.

I thought so, the idler pully is connected to the belt tensioner that I mentioned.

What year is your car and how many KMs does it have?

I'm concerned why it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

its a 2005, with 78000km.

Just bought it from the dealer 40 days ago. They are debating on it being covered. im trying to atleast get it half coverd by mazda. They are calling me back soon.

oh and the pulley was... pretty much dust/peices. It didnt just snap, it blew apart lol. Sofar im looking at new idler pulley (200$) and a new belt (20$)

not sure why the coolant would be leaking i guess ill find out once it gets fixed. Im hoping it was just a small hose got sliced when the pulley exploded. Any mechanics that could give me an idea why that would be leaving fluid after the belt came off would help me out!

It will all depend on when the vehicle was originally delivered (basically the warranty start date). You could be under by mileage but out by the date the warranty started.

They helped my out pretty good.

The pulley was going to cost $200, and another $70 for both belts that blew. Im paying $100 and they coverd the rest. My mechanic is installing it all tomorrow. Better than nothing i guess.

That's pretty fair, It cools off some of the boiling blood at having this happen to your "new" car.

Glad to hear it was figured Out!

One reason could be that because your waterpump was not spinning, the coolant overheats and starts to bubble out through the overflow tank or the rad cap pressure seal. It could also be a hose, but doubtful.

Did you notice if your temp gauge was high?
