So im upgrading to RX8 wheels from stocks 17"

i have automatic - do i look for more load on my tranny with RX8 wheels ?
what about gas consumption ?
will my tranny die faster because of this upgrade ?

i heard that RX8 are lighter then stock 17"

what about RX8 with tire vs 17" with tire ?

any ideas ?

I'm pretty sure that the rx-8 rims will weigh more than the stock 17s. Here's a good read about sizing: http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=10243.0

The RX8s will weigh a few pounds more, each rim/tire, than your 17s. I've noticed a *tiny* (like 5-10km less per half tank) reduction in fuel economy when I mounted my MS3s, but as long as you're not doing neutral drops at every light, I don't foresee any huge load increases on your transmission.

That said, you have to remember that its sort of like trying to pedal your bike from a total stand-still, in high gear. Its harder for you to get up to running speed where your effort level isn't as high. a 1" diameter difference on each of your rims isn't going to make a HUGE difference, but there will be one.
