I've just been wondering lately, what is up with all those people putting pedobear as their avatar?

Do you guys who use it, even know where it came from and what image board made pedobear infamous?

I spend 3 1/2 years of my life as a /b/tard, I finally get away from it all and have stayed clear for a little over a year now, and now suddenly I think I'm going crazy. 4chan is everywhere!

That's what I'm saying. But members, that I won't mention, use it as their avatar. Do they really know what it means?

BTW: I, in NO WAY, endourse pedobear or anything it stands for. I started this thread asking WHY someone would use that for their avatar, so I don't want anyone getting my intentions mixed up.

Because so many people REALLY have no fricken idea what it represents!!! The look at the decals and say "Oh isn't that soo cute!!"
Also I noticed that most of the people that have the decal on their car are asians. (BTW I am an asian too also and NO I do not have one on my car)

first of all - not understanding what PEDObear is you gotta be a retard of a sort.

second - all the ppl that i know who are using pedo bear in a form of a sticker, avatar or other graphical expression do it not because they are associated with a pedofile community in any way, but simply because of the virtual commercialization of the icon AND of the issue. It is a joke. Period.

Also, I do believe that they are using it because of the controversial attention it could potentially atract (and as it was proven right here, it actually did!)

sorry, i should rephrase that - out of the ppl that have posted i have a living reason to be concerned with the issue of pedophilism. you are right, it can offend anyone.

it really represents a symbol built on a disturbing matter, that's all.

i personally see a few other avatars that I find to be a lot more visually offensive/disturbing than pedobear.

I'm not offended by it or anything and I don't take it too seriously, I just wanted to know if the people using it knew what it really meant, and if so...why use it?? lol...

I saw a guy parked at my building once with the custom license plates: "CP RULEZ". I lol'd a bit then wondered how that passed the screening.
