View Full Version : Hey fellas... Just some numbers if you are interested

Hey everyone. I would just like to share some numbers with you. I am doing it only to show what a particular set up can attain. I know everybody is going to do the mods their own way and that is what this whole thing is about anyway. I just like to put it outhere for some who might want some pretty good numbers and would like to keep their MS3 pretty reliable as a DD.

Nonetheless here is my most recent dyno with the cpe flash on it. I street tuned the car to compansate for the wide open throttle and tried to push the reworked stocker to see its potential. The two runs show my two maps. My lower run is my daily driving map set at 19psi with no timing adjustments with quite a lot of fuel added down low as well as some zerod values across the mid range( from about 3800 to 4800rpm) and the the fuel gets gradually taken away more and more as we go higher in the range. Final a/f ratio at around 6300+ is a conservitive 11.5 to 11.7. So I still could pull more but I am maxing the engine anyway so the few hp gain is in my opinion not worth it.

Higher run is set on my track map. It has a few timing adjustments. It is set at 20.5 psi and I always use octane boosters when using this map. Again there is some power left on the table but there is always isn't there. The only time you get FULL!! potential out of your set up is when you blow up the motherfu@$!%.

Here is the dyno. I made sure I went to a pretty low reading dyno to give you gentelmen as accurate numbers as I could.

Shit I just read the bottom part where it says You cannot post attachments..WTF. Anyways for those who are interested you can PM for the dyno sheet. The power definetly holds longer and stronger( past 6300) and there is none of that drastic power loss up top. So the 20.5 psi map yielded 335.4whp/360.5tq and the 19 psi got
326whp/351.9tq.

I have tried alot of things for this car and drove to many places to get some advice to finally get a set up I am truly happy with. If there is anything I can help anybody with to save then some headaches and hopefully some cash, it would be my pleasure. I am far from any expert, it is just like I said I tried alot on this car so hopefully experience counts for a little something.
Thanks everyone and I wish you all luck and happy modding!!
Cheers

you can post attachments, but you have to host them elsewhere. Think photobucket, xs.to, etc..

I hope this works boys. Here is the latest dyno I was talking about earlier, and below is my latest track time. My best is a little lower than this one but I usually trapped at 108 to 110mph. So you can see there is room for improvement on thta as my trap was merely 105. I was off on my shifts as the power range has become broader since my flash and retune. Anyway I know this is a high 12sec car on a consistent basisi on street tires. Here is the slip.

I apologize for the spelling gentelmen. I suck ass in typing. On the slip I am car 1983. Like I said I messed up on shifting. Pre flash I shifted at around 5500. That is too early now. That 13.1 is beatable and so is my best of 12.89 at 110.8. Since the CPE flash the car just feels complete IMHO. Hope you find thid helpful as I do some of your post fellas!

The dyno is a dynojet at Marken Performance in Kitchener. The results are SAE corrected.

I'm just taking the liberty of posting them up without the link:

What bolt-ons are on your car with the standback?

Hey Brecker, all my bolt-ons are in my sig. There are a couple of minor modifications that are custom jobs on my car but for the most part it is all there in the sig.

I heard it was 347whp for a LONG time before it blew...RIP to possibly the fastest MS3 in Canada...and Tom/TiZi has been reppin' us CDN's well in the community. Here's hoping he'll be back with bigger and better things thru palerider/Darrell Cox Racing.

That totally sucks. Any details on what went wrong? Either way I hope TiZi hangs in there.

I noticed one guy complaining on that thread about these engines blowing up.... Is there a common failure/flaw I don't know about? I'm lightly modded and after my DP I don't know that I'll do much else to the car, I don't think I have anything to worry about... but if there's a common flaw somewhere, I'd like to know.... ;)

These engines tend to pop around the 350 WHP numbers, and every aftermarket turbo build I have seen has also popped even with aftermarket internals.

When they tear the engine apart, is there a common problem? ;) Or would that be too easy?

yep... mods

Most of the mods are simple bolt-ons tho...

The engine is non-interference, right? Are we starving the engine of fuel or something? I think I recall reading that the rods are one of the weakest links?...

i think if we had the answer nobody would be blowing up their engines... yes the rods seem to be the most common victim

Yeah I know... Guess I'm just frustrated with the cap being roughly 120whp over stock... Even tho it's an impressive number. On my previous platform people were putting down 4-500 whp and the weakest link was the transmission and CV shafts... But they had 15 yrs to work on the platform. I guess it'll take some time.

Edit: I finally caught up on that thread on MSF... 11's this weekend??...

I'm hoping for the best, I just don't see it happening on street tires...

I want to see someone run slicks on these bad boys and see if we can get some better times. I know guys with srt4's running mid 13's out of the box with slicks and our car is pretty close in numbers stock for stock

I ran 14.3 at 99MPH at Cayuga last year bone stock. I think with slicks a high 13 is possible without mods. Guys on MSF are running in the 12's with bolts ons and slicks. I think a guy with just CAI and MM ran a 13.1 with slicks.

I ran 13.6 at 106 last weekend on 215 Toyo T1R's and the mild bolt ons in my sig.
