I'm interested in a set of 16x7 +42 rims I found, but I'm not sure if that will rub as I plan to drop the car on MS springs and shocks in a year's time. Anyone have experience with this setup or similar?

Thanks!

You should be able to make them work, depending on what tire width you go with. There are a bunch of threads where this is discussed.

Don't for get the bolt patter has to match as well, we need 5x114.3.

bolt pattern is fine on those wheels. I plan to go with stock 205/55/16 tires, will I have any rubbing issues?

Nope you should be fine because the rim is only 7" wide. You could look into going with a 215 for a wider setup if you would prefer.

Definitely will not rub. I've never heard of 205mm tires and 16 inch rims rubbing. So you should be good!

I was worried only because I am planning to drop the car with MS springs. Thanks for the response, sounds like I should be OK.

MS springs will not give you a really low drop too, just so you know, so for sure you're not going to rub. As mentioned in other threads about the MS springs, not too much drop, but more on upgrade on performance/handling.

If you mean Mazdaspeed accessory springs, then they will give you a moderate drop. ~1.25"?? or so I've read.

If you mean oem springs from the Mazdaspeed3, then you will likely get very little drop. Just firmer springrate. I have these springs.

I don't think 16s are going to give you any trouble... +42 offset should be enough.

yeah need to save up some money before getting the MS accessory springs + shocks...modding gets expensive fast :chuckle
