So I decided to go into work early yesterday, and now I am wondering why! I was cruising to work as usual as if nothing there were no worries in the world (a typical feeling I get when driving the speed) when a moron in a red f-150 almost side swipes me! I was in the fast lane going about 115-120 keeping up with traffic and this goomba thought he could get into the gap in front of me. Obviously he does not signal, and is going slower than the speed of the cars in the fast lane. So I basically slam on the brakes and shift to the side after honking and feel my car go air borne! After noticing the car was still driving fine I kept going to work and noticed this...1/2 a rim with "curb rash" and a healthy chunk taken out of my tire!

I would get that tire off ASAP so it doesn't blow / dismount and cause more damage. I hope you got his license plate #!

Did you get rim/tire warranty with your car?
The rim is likely mainly a cosmetic war wound now, but the chunk out of the sidewall is more cause for concern. Sorry!

I wasn't sure if the chunk out the side was really cause for concern. I was under the impression that because it has a steel wall inside it should be okay as long as you aren't cornering too hard. Do you guys think they will last until winter? And as for the rim/tire protection I don't think that Ontario Mazda offers it. If so I hope I got it!!!!

I agree
I drive Hamilton > Sauga every day and it amazes me the stupidity that exsists on these road. In Germany you do each phase of your drivers liscence every 4 years
None of this 8 months for a 16 year old

That totally sucks, very frustrating when the incompetence of others damages our stuff.
I would also get that tire changed as soon as possible. Unfortunately the stock tires are quite expensive.

that sucks... sorry to see that man... glad you're not hurt. rims and tires are replaceable, but still ouch! yeah what did you hit? the guard rail or those concrete barriers on the center of the highway?
Wow. Glad to hear that you and the car are ok. Shame about the rim. Thankfully it wasn't worse.

Response by me:
That must suck. Imagine if they were aftermarket rims. LOL! Atleast, your car is drivable. It could have been worse, you could have been cut off into oncoming traffic and hit someone. I've had worse happen. Consider yourself lucky.

I hit one of those curbs right before the guard rail right at Erin Mills. My guess is that I was airborne when I bounced off the curb!

Oh believe me I do consider myself lucky! The way I look at it if it was my regular 3 and didn't have as good brakes I would have not had a car, and other people may have been injured as well as me!

Yeah I saw that on GOOGLE and thought about it but the 08.5 has a different finish on it so matching that would be difficult!

Even they have released the colour there i think you can get it with 16 now to i will have to ask my grandparents they still live there but thats the last i heard
ooohhhh.... no..... some bad truck drivers again. i met some of them on the rode too. they are careless when driving/lane changing b/c they think they got the big truck and feel tough. i reported one driver when i drove on 401 heading home, a hummer H2 almost slamed me and opp caught him as a drunk driver 10min later on 401. (my friend got him right after i called the centre).

Ummm, you need to replace the tire ASAP. A gouge like that out of the sidewall impairs the structural integrity of the tire and can easily blow out through general driving conditions.
As for the rim/tire warranty, you know you got it if you paid the $800 bucks for it as an additional feature when you bought the car.

I'm surprised you didn't get out of the car when that happened. I'm sure the damage on your tires and rims would made a huge bump inside the car. I would have definitely gotten that guys licence plate number.

i agree with this. my g-2 test was sooo easy. however lets see in the past month ive almost been sideswiped 7 times (6 of which were females) and interestingly enough only one of them was a little car. the rest were suvs and trucks. and i got rear ended by a female. nothing happened to my car. but her car wasnt soo lucky. its just interesting how bad people can really drive. like yesterday im driving on speedvale in guelph and there were about 5 cars in front of me and some woman in a ford escape beside me. she realizes that the guy in front of her was turning so she decided to turn into my lane and she missed me by about 2 inches untill she managed to get in front of me. myself almost getting rear ended by a guy in a sunfire.the chick didnt even realize that she almost caused an accident and went on her own merry lane. she finally turned off the guy in the sunfire drove by me to turn and told me that that was sooo stupid what had just happened. i said yea i know. some people should not be driving. i mean how do you not realize you sideswiped a car. how stupid is that. i feel for your rims. hope it all works out

i talked to a guy from the dealership the other day when i was in for my 8k service and he said the chunk out of the tire isn't so bad that it needs to be replaced right away, but i really have to keep an eye on it for weathering....good thing I have winters though. I guess next year new rims and tires?

I would have gotten that in writing from him, so when your tire blows out on the highway, you can go after them for the repairs to your car... I'm actually suprised to hear that a shop would have told you that, unless the pictures make it look worse than it really is.
Any damage like that to the sidewall is dangerous. It becomes more dangerous as the tire rotates, due to the constant friction from the compression and expansion of it as it reaches the 6 o'clock position. Just keep a really close eye on it, but obviously I still think that replacement is the way to go. Honestly, why take chances with your car/safety over a $100 tire.

I went into Simply today. All I have to say is Allen did it again! The guy is amazing, and I highly recommend him! He took one look at my tire and told me that I would be able to drive on that tire for a long time as the side wall is re-enforced and there wasn't sufficient enough damage to have to dish out the money to replace it. He was also able to give me an aprox. figure as to how much I would have to spend to get the rim refinished! GREAT GUY! haha
