I'm thinking about going for yellow fog lamps. What options do i really have with this? I currently know about the Nokya Yellows...

Also about installing them. Is it just a straight swap?

Thanks - Laksman

You can get yellow halogens (ie. nokyas), or 3000k hid, or you can put a yellow tint on your foglights (ie. lamin-x or rockblocker).

fogs are H11 bulbs

I would stick stock. Aftermarket yellow h11's don't last long. Grab some yellow lamin-x and you're good to go.

would the yellow lamin-x make it not as.. bright?

You wouldn't notice much different. Its not as yellow as aftermarket bulbs or HIDs but its still more yellow and doesn't dim it much. Just figure its like having a yellow lens. Plus the lamin-x protects the lens on the fog.

I've gone through Nokya and Eurolite yellow fogs and I'm running Lamin-x at the moment.

My tip:

1. Run stock bulbs with some yellow overlay such as lamin-x

or

2. Run Yellow (3000k) HID bulbs, but I can't justify spending so much on bulbs that go through the elements (be it they sit so low on the car).

I've had my Nokya's for almost a year know and no problems.

hehe, take a look at the bulbs and see if they're bulging or about to burst. Just be careful, many of us on the board have had issues.

Take a look at this, http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=12139&highlight=laminx

Personally, I'm running Nokya Stage I for almost two years. I didn't have problems till recently but it was because my Nokya's we're not really stage I. I found out after they died and fried some wires that my were actually 80W but in a 55W box.

So Becareful!

i was replacing nokyas every 4 months for 1.5 yrs until i put the stockers back in.
just like 3gfx said....they get the bulging about to burst effect. the stock bulbs last much longer. i ran mine as drls so it was on pretty much all the time.
i do have hid fogs now and they are very yellow :)

had it for 7 months no signs of melting. But I don't use my fogs since they are completely useless anyways visbility wise. I only use it in low visibility conditions outside so others can see me, rain and fog.

I think people who run their fogs on all the time in traffic/low speed condition might have more of an issue.

and rice is good :)

People have had problems with Noykas...read here:

If your fogs are HID's the Laminx should be ok as HID's generally run cooler than halogen bulbs.

According to their website, www.lamin-x.com , they say they have 5 year guarantee. Not saying that we are going to go after them for anything, they are obviously comfortable about their products lasting 5 years.

so the safest way would be 3000k HIDs?

yeah

i'm running Nokya fogs and i'm a lil concerned now that i looked at the link YOTR posted :S lol

The only "safe" thing about HIDs would probably be that unlike the after market bulging bulbs, they're not going to burst/bulge if handled properly.

I'd rather pay $40 dollars for fogs on Ebay than go HID and have a rock go through the glass and f up the bulb as well.

Hids are the best and expensive way. Too much hassle as well. I heard Rockblocker works great. Can anyone confirm that?

I would recommend gonig with the yellow lense. Also looks good when the car is just parked as you can still see the yellow pretty good. As per the rice comments.... you're asking the wrong guy as I like rice :)

HID's are awesome, but I can't justify paying the money... as it can go to other mods.

I have heard all the negative comments and issues with Nokya bulbs. Yes, I am running them and I haven't had any problems for the 16 months I've been using them. Yes, i have checked them periodically and I've had no bubbling issues or anything unusual. With that said, I am only one positive comment out of the many negative comments posted.

Okay, so i've picked up a pair of Nokya's from pmall for 29 bucks. Seemed like it would be worth a try. So I've installed them... now just how should i take precautions for this bulging thing. How often should i take a look... is it noticible in the fog lamp housing?

x_o_k_x

Probably when the output changes, like less light shining etc..

i have nokya's and have no problems so far either...i don't really think there are any precautions you can take if they're going to mess up...they're going to mess up

I've had my yellow Nokyas since November 2005...thats quite a long time. Mind you I only use them in foul weather since as others have said, they are really useless for additional visibilty. I also tend to use them when I know the car is in motion and turn them off when there is a traffic jam. They do have buldges on them and have had them for a while. I keep waiting for them to burn out so I can switch back to stockers but close to 3 years later...they are still going.

I read that in another thread before too, asked the dealer. I was told no such bulb exist.

The only thing about the Nokya's that I have experienced is that even if the box says Stage I stock draw of 55W MAKE SURE THE BULB is actually Stamped 12v/55W.

Because I've had ones that were stamped 12V/80W then you're really running into problems!

Are Eurolites any good?
I believe 3GFX is using those but they're not as yellow as the Nokya's.

Are Eurolites any good?

Ok, so in my case, I wanted to really try out the Polarg and Luminics bulbs. Problem is they are tough to find so I decided to give the Eurolites a shot. Right now I have Eurolite yellow bulbs in my highbeams (DRL) and my fogs. I'm actually not disappointed with them...probably because I wasn't expecting much...but they're decent! I just wish they threw light a bit further.

Here's two pics of how the fogs look.

Where do you find the lamin-x lense?

Greg_r
08-28-2008, 12:41 AM
I'm running 3000K fogs - it's an Apexcone kit with the slim profile ballast/igniters. I've been running them non-stop since about January (long story short, I'm too lazy to do a proper DRL bypass, so I blocked off the auto-light sensor and my lights are always on).

They've given me no problem whatsoever - including being through the ridiculous snow storms this year and everything, so I don't think there's a problem with them being exposed to the elements (the kit's sealed, and I made sure to seal the bulbs in their housings properly). The kit ran me about $120

I'm obviously biased, but I think they look cooler, especially when I start up, since both my low-beams (6000K) and fogs have to warm up and I get a purple (lo-beams) and green (fogs) combo until they're warm (then it's crisp white/blue and yellow). They were also really easy to install - remove bumper, mount the ballast (I can show you where) and then plug into stock harness...

That being said, I did consider doing the cover thing, so I ordered transparent self-adhesive vinyl film from ImportEquipment.com (http://importequipment.com/transparent_sticker_by_the_foot.htm) (don't ask my why them - they were cheap I guess). I have a sheet that's about 12" X 14" that's lying around, so $7 bucks and it's yours... PM me.

Dont get 55W HIDs for your fogs...thats just asking for trouble. 35W 3000k are much brighter than nokyas already.

I have 1 eurolight in my fogs... because the other burnt out within 3 months! i need to find some Reliable lights that look similar in color to my 4300k HID. *sigh*
