Hi

I have two pairs of 6.5 round infinity speakers, I will be taking them over the weekend to the installer (Sponsor of this forum).

I heard that a round adapter or base have to be custom make, for the 6.5 round speakers to fit on the doors. These adapter or base can be made out of different materials like wood etc.

My guess is that each material that can be use to make the speakers base, should effect the sound quality.

Question #1: What particular material should I ask the installer to make the base of the speakers of?

Another thing, My speakers comes with some kind of foam strip or tape included on the box.

Question #2:

Should I ask the installer to use that foam strip between the custom base and the speaker or doesn't really make any difference for the quality of the sound to use that foam strip at all?

Thanks

Alex

1. The material really doesn't matter. It could be plywood, MDF, plastic, plexi, etc. It really doesn't matter.

2. The foam probably won't do much but I would ask them.

I'm sure if you are paying them to do the job they will do the install the right way.

Thanks cwp_sedan,

I was just double checking to make sure I knew, without having to blindly fallow what the installer say

I found this guy on the M3 site:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/495957

He's absolutely awesome and gives a full walkthrough of audio installation with 6.5s. He uses MDF for the bases which is pretty standard - because of the woodpulp/glue construction they're really dense but still fairly flexible, which is something you'd want from a speaker mount... actually using these in replacement of the standard thin plastic mounts that are stock should actually improve sound quality.
