Hockey Night In Canada's Next Anthem

Hey guys,

As some of you guys know, CBC (http://anthemchallenge.cbc.ca/home) is holding a contest to find the next anthem for Hockey Night in Canada. As a songwriter and producer, I decided to give it a shot. The original HNIC theme left some pretty big shoes to fill! So far, I've had a lot of great feedback from people I've played this for in person. It's got the energy and excitement, it's formatted for TV and it's catchy...you can whistle this tune easily. :chuckle

He I like it, sorta hard to replace the last one in my head though.

The way I see it, the original theme IS hockey. You could hum or whistle the tune and immediately you'd think of the game. Although I'm sad to see the song go, I'm more excited about the opportunity to create the new theme and possibly be a part of hockey history.

it's alright. I think it needs some lyrics though. I think this is going to be a tough challenge to write the next anthem (like you said). good luck.

Not much of a fan to be honest with you. Seems too calm for a hockey anthem. The original always managed to get my blood going, yours, not so much.

Really I don't think anything is going to replace the HNIC Anthem. I've got a feeling I'm going to be reaching for the mute button when the new one comes on.

I think that it probably got your blood going because of what it was, and what it represented. You KNEW what came after, and when you heard it, it meant hockey. I have no doubt in time that the new anthem, although it will never replace the HNIC theme to anyone who grew up with it, will be an adequate alternative for the generations to come.

I know that it's the case for me. I can be doing absolutely nothing: sitting at my desk doing work, cleaning my house, studying, whatever. If that song comes on, my heart starts racing. I ALWAYS listen to it before I jump on the ice, because I know what it does to my adrenaline.

I've thought about that break after the first part. I wanted to make it sound current, although it's pretty simple. I didn't wanna overdo that part because I see that part as being voiced over by commentary or advertising.
