View Full Version : Got Lucky on E-bay
Due to a Typo, I found a Dub100 subwoofer for .99 cents plus 30 dollars shipping, No reserve... I bid on it when it still had 4 days left... and I won!
So my Punch P1 is being replaced with a Dub100...
Now that being said... I've started a spiral of doom - My amp is now too small. Its a 2 channel Alpine, which was fine with my single coil P1... but with my Dub it'll only push around 120 RMS at 8ohm. (it pushes 150watts bridged in 4 ohmn)
Soooo I need a Mono Amp so i can run it at 2ohm and shake the dirt off my car. :chuckle (I highly doubt a 10' will do this... I just want more punch. Punch that my Rockford Fosgate "punch" failed miserably on. Does anyone know of a good 300-400 Watt RMS Mono Amp I could grab? Preferably on Sale...:chuckle
I'd also like to mount it on the side of my small (1.15 cubic foot) sealed box I have.
Thanks for your advice.
I am seeing an infinity one at futureshop... but I've heard that they've really slipped and aren't the greatest. Its 300 watt and 150 bucks... and i have a 50 dollar gift certifricate on the way from my rewards points!

Id be surprised if you bought what is actually you think it is.. Because thats really freaking awesome deal!
My friend has one of these and it really kicks! He has his in a ported box, not sure if that'
ll make too much difference... but his box is WAY to big for the sub. he didn't do any research.
Here's hoping i didn't get ripped off! :-P
So anyone know of a decent amp that can push this... at a good price?
So far its the infinity for 120 at Futurecrap.
I also just realized... I think i've opened up a can of worms:
Right now, I have a JBL 60.4 (240 Watt RMS) with a Pioneer (150 watt RMS) running on 8 Gauge Wire I understand thats pretty much the limit. If i bump up the Pioneer to a 300 or 400watt RMS amp... Will i have to go with 4 gauge wire?
What would determine this? Would there be an obvious indication that my wiring doesn't cut it.
As well, Right now i have 14 gauge speaker wire to the subwoofer - Will THAT cut it?
This "deal" i scored seems to be costing me alot. :-S What have I done, lol.

I would really recommend you boost up your wiring size. 4 is your best bet and avoid the cable getting really hot. Could even cause a fire.. yikes. I would also recommend upgrading your main power fuse. Amps for fuse all depends on the monoblock amp you get.
Heres what I run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqWl0SgBU1c Similar except I have a 12 not a 15. Custom box.
OK, SO i have the sub... it sounds great. but my current amp isn't 2 ohm stable in bridged mode, So i have it at 8ohm right now. It sounds Just a little bit better (clearer? more percise?) than my old Punch P1.... However, I can turn the stereo up to 12... and the bass is nice and balanced with the mids and tweeters (2way speakers) ... but any higher than 12... and the bass won't get louder. But the Speakers do. I'm assuming this is b/c my just doesn't have the balls to do the job.
NOW... I've read around ALOT.
I LIKE the idea of running the sub in 8ohm. Firstly, You get less distortion. The amp Runs cooler, and everything genereally lasts longer. You also get more "clean" power that way. I understand it is not the best way of getting the most power out of your system. In fact... I'd probably have to go for something around 1200RMS at 2 ohm to make it 300RMS at 8 ohm. Does this sound correct?
My question is... if the sub states it can handle 300 watt RMS... is it static across all wiring methods? (If i have it wired for 2ohm, is it 600 watt, and 8 ohm is 150 watt, etc etc?
Or is the power capibility of the woofer uniform across the "impedance board"?
Thanks in advance...
Well. I recieved no advice, so i took my own. I bought a clarion amp online, I hope it does the job. 80 dollars shipped. Hopefully i dont get dinged by duties!
its a clarion APX1300
Clarion rates it as 400 watts max at 2 ohm mono... but ACTUAL output according to CES2006 (or whatever it is) standards shows 500 watts RMS at 2 ohm mono. Makes sense? Nope. Must say the price sold me on it. Either way, it has more control, and power than my current 2 channel pioneer. Once i get the amp i'll be posting both amp and 10 inch Punch P1 for sale.
