I have taken my car in to local shops about the engine ticking and idling very roughly, they have no clue what it is. I have had my car two months and burlington mazda will not even look at my car because they say its not a powertrain problem, therefore its not under warrenty. What could be causing the engine to tick?

Most dealers will say this is normal as it will eventually happen to a 3 with around 90,000kms. I think it has to do with something lose in the intake manifold. There are threads in the forum somewhere. It has happened to RJ3, maybe he can give you a better explanation.

If it looks like sewing machine,I think it’s valve clearance.
M3 engine have shims to regulate clearance.
Problem is no every garage has full set all sizes of them.
By manual it have to be controlled every 120 000 km.

mazdas3sporte: sounds to me like you have a sedan and that noise comming from the rear is MOST likely to be the rear parcel shelf. I have the same annoying thing but it ponly happens in winter. Or in colder climates. The plastic simply is cold and stiff and until it warms up it will make the noise I have tried several different routes to try and quiet it down ie foam tape, sound dead and foam blocks but have been unsuccessful to make it stop. As for the wrenches in the trunk dont forget that just because there are inprints in the black cover there does not neccesarily have to be a tool there. As long as you have the spare tire rench to take the tire on and off and the tow hook and the jack lift bar that is all you are supposed to have.
As for the ticking sounds to me like valve ticking. But the new generation cars at my work are also doing the ticking when started. CX come in and complain all the time so we simply rev up the engine for 15 minutes to ensure the car is warm and if the noise is gone it is normal. We have a service bulletin out for that method of testing but it is not for Mazda. Just using it as an example

actually mine is a hatch, it has nothing to do with the engine warming up in regardards to the ticking sound , i drive close to 20 mins in highway speeds with revs of around 2800-3000 so iam sure by that time the engine is as warm as its gonna get, its very loud at idle speeds after a long drive, and the insulation that they put made a diffrence for the first 2 days, maybe cutting the noise by 1 %. now its back to where it was before and i think its even louder, iam droppin the car off at the dealer on monday , there gonna take 1-2 days seeing what is wrong with it, this is after i filed a claim with dufferin mazda

I just went to dufferin mazda today to install the recall onmy 05 mazda3 GS .
Itlod them about the ticking on the enjine ,and they said they had to run a diagnostic which would cost around $100 +tax i find it a bit expensive, because im pretty sure they know what the problem is ....
mazda3sport let us know what they told you about yours .

this is a warranty coverd issue, u should not be paying 1 cent for any diagnostics, and especially at dufferin mazda, ur money will go down the drain. i will keep you all posted about any sort of update by the end of next week,

cheers

*Update for anyone experiencing the back noise*
Just got a call few minuites ago about the creaking at the back of the car, the service manager informed me that they had droven the car as far as misisuga srry for spellin, and had found nothing wrong anywhere in the car, he informed me that he had driven the car for 58Km's with a tech from mazda of canada and 3 other people and no body could find what was wrong with the car , in their words they checked everything and nothing was found wrong or lose, he informed me the car had a 5 year warranty and if the problem got worse to bring it back again and they would give me another rental to see if they could find the problem, most likely iam gonna be going back there again , i aint giving up ne time soon, about the engine ticking issue they said they had fixed this with a part , i cant confirm on deny this as i have not picked up the car, i will pick up the car 2moro and will make a seperate new thread about that stating if the fix was real or not, which i doubt again
