Hey guys, I'm kinda new to car audio systems...

I looking to get a 12" sub and an amp for my car and i was wondering if I would be able to hook an amp up to the stock deck? I'm just looking for a pretty basic system and not too expensive. I commute everyday an hour to work and want better audio system without adding too much weight, keeping fuel economy in mind :bana

I was thinking about going mono channel amp just powering the sub but i was wondering if I was to get a multi channel amp and power the sub with the stock speakers... do you think the stock speakers would be able to handle being powered by an amp?

Any Suggestions?

Thanks :)

Welcome to the forum! You can hook up a device call an LOC (Line Out Converter) to your stock deck and run RCA connections to your amp of your choice. I've done it, but would personally replace the stock deck with an aftermarket deck IMO. Either way, it's a definite improvement over stock. Hope that helped.

I opted to keep the stock deck and added a 10" woofer and an amp. Best bang for buck IMO. Sounds great and I personally think the stock system handles highs and mids reasonable well. Not as good as an aftermarket system but still good enough. Plus, I like the stock look and at the time I didn't want to lose my steering wheel controls (there is an adaptor you can buy to maintain them while using an aftermarket deck).
