My PS3 is not working. It can't read the game disc. It has no warranty. I clean the lense but still no change. Other than sending to Sony for repair, is there any reliable repair store in GTA?

Wouldn't it be best to send it to Sony to have it covered under warranty? I would at least contact them to find out what to do. For our Wii repair, the place was in Scarborough so it wasn't that far away.

Maybe u should go Pacific Mall to get repair. (Kennedy & Steeles) Usually they r cheaper and no tax. Many game shops in there, so u should be able to find a cheapest repair store.

Your PS3 is most likely 99% is not repairable. You need to replace Blu-Ray laser. If you search Sony Forums you will see most people have the same problem. And I think there could be a recall or replacement. Just call Sony Customer service and see what they say.
I did lots of research before I bought my PS3 and I got 3 years warranty from Futureshop regarding the same problem.
So just call and see what they say.

Thanks for all the advices.

Actually I went to Pacific Mall yesterday and asked all the games stores. No one would do it. Most of them said sent back to Sony because it's Blueray.

I have no warranty, so it's no use to call Sony. I found that the Sony authorized repair depot is called MTC in Whitby and they charged a flat rate $169 + taxes.

I have been to MTC, pretty easy to deal with. I had a PS2 crap out on me and after paying a small admin fee, they gave me another unit. I think what they do is take broken units and then refurbish them. So when you come in, you leave the same day with another unit. NOW>>>> the downside is that, it was easy for my PS2 as it has no harddrive. But maybe they can do the same for you and just remove your HD and place it in another PS3 unit. Not sure, but good luck

obviously didn't read the "no warranty" part lol

i currently have the EXACT same problem...this is the SECOND PS3 since Feb that has done this to me....in warranty it's a straight replacement...i can't remember where the distrobution center is but it's not THAT far...took about a week total to get the box send in the PS3 and get a new one back....

your problem is definetly NOT fixable by yourself....guaranteed

Yeah, only either you play xbox games, or overheating and possibly ps2 games.. will cause bluray to fail. Getting extanded warranty is a great investment for a big gamer. For me, my PS3 has very well ventilated area for hot air to escape, so when I have it for days it never overheats and havent had problems yet.

I have a 60gig ps3 for almost 2 years now with no issues. In regards to having an intercooler or fan for the ps3, it is definitely not needed as long as your ps3 is in a open area. The ps3s are built as a server but i am surprised the blu ray lens failed on you guys.

If you have bad luck with hardware extended warranty is great or if your too cheap to get one, than get it from costco. They have a 1 year return policy i believe.

Hope everything works out

I would say so..don't keep it on carpet.

It will build up heat, and also, fans will suck up more crap into it,.

Dude I'm on my 3rd 360 and just sent in my second ps3 in 8 months due to excessive fan noise. The quality this generation is garbage. But definitely you should not keep the console on carpet. Give them room to breathe, cover the console when not in use to protect from dust and vacuum the air vents once a week. If you think I'm joking about the vacuuming try googling it.

Never ever keep any kind of electronics on the carpet. Not that the heat will not escape but as well as electronic equipment will attract all sorts of dust and hair of the carpet.
Its the same as having winter coat on you in the summer.

I vaccume inside of my computer once a year. You'de be surprised how much dust it sucks in from fans. Then I use high preassure air and blow it out. Helps your computer breathe eaisier and doesnt heat up as quick.

Static Electricity is going to pwn your computer one day. the tips of the vacuum cleaner generally have that.
