All week ive had my check engine light turn on. Ive checked over everything i can check myself. Then reset the battery so it goes off, but after 2 days it will come back on. It came on again and i got it checked at a local shop, but they couldnt scan my car so my mechanic checked things over and said everythings running perfect and not to worry much about it for now. Battery was reset again.

I ran some fuel system cleaner threw the car 2 days ago but again today it came back on. It happend every time i shift into 2nd gear or 3rd gear, and i will feel a quick blip in the engine like a small hesitation. Small and quick enough its barely noticable. I think it might be a miss fire. Car has 80,000k and its an 04 sedan. Everything runs perfect. Just bought from dealership 3 months ago. Warrenty is just over.

Any ideas what it can be? Im putting new plugs, CAI and also cleaning the throttle body while my intake is off sometime next week. Any help is needed!!

No use speculating on it!! Just get it scanned for the code, either by someone here whom might have a scanner or at the dealer.Either way something is going to have to get replaced! (Most likely)....The only time I had a CEL, I didn't even notice any problem and turned out it was the Purge Solenoid Valve.

That's strange... especially as mine just threw a CEL this morning. I popped my hood and checked everything out... last time this happened it was the maf sensor on the CAI that was disconnected but it didnt happen this time. All fluids are up and the car isn't running funny... just kind of annoyed by it... the car has just under 65,000 km on it.. and of course my warranty just ran out about a week ago... so Im a little pissed off.. I'll have to get it looked at... asap....

Im going to get it scanned i just have a hardtime since i work so much and a garage is closed when i goto work, and closed when i get off. Ive also been told by othermazda owners the CEL will go on at certain km for your usual servicing. Check & change filter, check emissions etc. but nothing serious.

LMAO, Those 'other Mazda Owners' definitely have no clue what their talking about and are in some dream world :chuckle

If your getting a CEL, there is Something Wrong...Period. It may be something minor (such as a glitch) or something more serious (such as mentioned PSV), but definitely something wrong!!...I'd suggest you do yourself a favour and drop it off to the dealer ASAP!...take the TTC for the day...It's not a good practice to be driving around with a CEL.

I agree with Flagrum, I think this is worth taking an extra long lunch or ducking out early to check out properly.

Alright got off early today due to rain. Had a chance to get it scanned. Its the Intake manifold purge valve. Causes a rough idle when switched to neutral. The whole purpose for the valve is to release gas vapours back into your gas tank. Its not real important but its better to get it fixed. Its a $120 part from mazda and 1.5 hour labour. $300 fix all together. Im going to do the work myself i think. If anyone can get their hands on a purge valve this week let me know ill buy it.

Glad to hear that you figured out your issue... I wish mine was the same... I babied the car to work and had one of my drivers come to scan it.. I got outside and started the car... but no CEL we ran the computer on it.. and no codes or issues came up.... not sure what the deal was... I took a turn kind of hard to set it off... oddly enough both times the light has come on it was at the exact same turn.... figured maybe I set off a knock or pinched something....

My check engine light came on this week too. I took my car to the dealer and they said it was the purge valve also. It was covered under warranty so I got it done for free =) Is your car still under warranty?

Purge Solenoid Valves seem to be a common early replacement on the 3!!.You just got to be lucky that it goes early enough when your still under warranty and I would assume since CanSpeed priced it out and that he has an 04' that he has no warranty....tough to take I guess.

How are your Raybestos brakes holding out Steph? ....just curious!
