I know it's a wear and tear thing but the rotors seemed to go too fast. It vibrates when I brake on the highway and it wobbles when I am slowing down towards a red light on city streets. My mechanic told me to wait until I have to replace the brake pads and from there, I should change my rotors. What do you guys think? It's annoying to wobble and vibrate all the time.

I don't remember the exact mileage the vibration started after I had my rotors replaced but I had them replaced at about 48000 and I am now at around 72000. I have noticed the shaking/vibrating/wobbling a lot earlier than 72000 km. Possibly shortly after I had them replaced even.

Should I just replace them now or is it costly to do so now and then go through another big maintenance later on when other things are due? Thanks.

how long until your pads are due?

I haven't checked it myself but my mechanic told me there's still a lot left.

you need to replace rotors. You could wait, but take it easy on braking. But not safe to do so. And you probably need to stop braking so hard then they would last you longer IMO.

The warping of your rotors may be attributed to the an uneven torquing (is that a word?) of the lug nuts following a tire change or rotation. Make sure in the future that the lug nuts are torqued to OEM specs, it could help avoid this problem. Not to sure if warpped rotors will cause uneven wear on the pads or not maybe someone else can chime in. If not I say wait it out if you can bear the vibration.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'm going to replace it soon because the vibration is a pain in the butt to bear. Last time I had my pads, rotors replaced (all 4 rotors), it came to about 600 I think. Is that fair or should it be cheaper? I got it done at the Mazda dealership.

There's a thread somewhere, either here or on the 'other forum', about brakes (I can't remember if the topic is warped rotors or bedding brakes). You may be able to re-bed them. If you're not 100% sure your rotors are warped it's worth a try to re-bed them. It might save you some cash.

my money is on warped rotors. Good time to upgrade to some brembo blanks and a set of Hawk HP pads.
