for a few days now, my mazda is making a wierd noise which i believe is coming from the engine bay. the noise is like a small motor revving really really fast. the noise is getting louder and louder now, and everytime i shut the car off, it makes a deccelerating sound.
around 6pm today, when i was driving home, the i notice that the temperature was going up (the temperature gauge was about 75% the way to the "H").

I quickly drove home and parked the car.

Can anyone provide any insight to this problem? since it is saturday night, i cannot make an appointment until monday morning. crap!

thanks

No idea....Is your car new or old? The best thing is to take it to the dealer. If your car is new than at least the warranty will take car of it...

Someone else on this forum will definitely have an idea

the noise could be the fan, trying to cool the engine, and check your fluids and any leaks

Yes, It could be either Fan or possibly Water/coolant pump. take it to the dealer ASAP. Heat issues are NEVER good.

And open your windows, and turn on the heat as high as it can go - This will help cool the engine. We had an old Buick that would overheat in stop and go traffic... we had to do this to keep it running.

Check the coolant level - You may have a leak, and its possible the coolant pump is running dry, which would definately cause a whining noise.

To test if it is the fan... after you stop the engine, turn the ignition to ON without restarting. With engine so hot the fan should turn on... and if it is the thing making the noise you will hear it.
