View Full Version : Minor issues with 2009 M3 Sport

I just picked up my '09 Mazda3 Sport yesterday. This morning when I was checking out the car in more detail, I noticed that the carpet (not the floor mats) is not pressed firmly to the body of the car - it's kind of bunchy or is peeling off (not at the seams though). I wanted to make sure that this is not normal before I call the dealer...

One other issue I had: left the car outside last night (poured rain). Hopped into the car this morning and opened the sunroof only to have the water that was on the roof come splashing down on me and the leather:complain. Two questions from this experience: is there any way to prevent/stop the water from draining into the car, short from driving around for a while before opening the sunroof, and what do I do when the leather gets wet? This will become a bit of an issue once winter hits...If it was cloth I wouldn't care if it got wet. I've never had leather interior before. Thanks for the help.

1. Where exactly is it bunching? Go to the dealers and see a different car and see if it has the same thing happening.

2. Deal with it. Every sunroof is the same and will have this issue. If you get some water on there either dry it off first or just drive around until the water is gone. I would recommend that you don't use the sunroof in the winter as you could end up damaging the seal or possibly over work the motor it everything is frozen.

Uh....don't open the sunroof when there's WATER on it. Christ, common sense.

if you want to open it right away i would recomend you get one of those squeegee glass cleaners from CT (like 15$) and before you get in just wipe down the glass then open it.

as for the leather just wipe it off its only water

Yeah, never realized water pooled on the roof - I don't think it did on my old car...then again I never had a sunroof on my old car. Wasn't planning on using the sunroof in the winter. That comment was geared towards getting in the car with remnants of snow on jackets, skis, boards, etc. Eventually I'll pick up a ski/board rack which would solve some of the problem. Thanks!

I really never had that problem, i have never thought of opening sunroof after rain.. You could probably just tilt the sunroof till water drains and then open it all the way.

The owners manual actually states that you should not tilt/open the moon roof when there is water on it to prevent leaking and corrosion inside the roof.

If you treat it with Rain-X it may help. If there's even the slightest angle to it, Rain-X will make it bead off. But yeah... Common sense :-P

Leather is actually better than cloth for getting wet.. you wont damage it really either way.. treat it with Lexol leather conditioner once every 3 months to keep it protected..

Danier leather has some great water-proofers as well, try to give them a shot, but make sure you test a VERY SMALL area of the leather where you wont notice it for colourfastness.. you'll most likely be fine..

If your leather gets wet, wipe it down, and that is all you need to do..

good suggestion, I use wax on all my glass including the sun roof but except the front windshield. Water beads right off but never opened the sun roof after a rain.

My 08.5 carpet is like that on the passenger side.
the weathertech floor liners hide it pretty well.

Yeah, never realized water pooled on the roof - I don't think it did on my old car...then again I never had a sunroof on my old car.

Your old car (with no sunroof) had a completely smooth roof surface for the water to run off of. Your sunroof has a small lip around the edge (weather sealing) which is raised enough to hold some water on there. So Rain-X will not really help that much since the water is still retained by the lip.

Either wipe it off, tilt the roof forward first to drain the water, or drive until its all gone.

Can you post a pic of the carpet bunched up?
