There is actually 2 intake manifold control valves on our 3s and no they are not the Purge solenoid valve, thats a different beast, beast because they seem to go....often!

There is a link on this forum to the shop manuals; I suggest you link yourself to it and do some reading just to educate yourself.(knowledge is power:chuckle)...they are very informative and also use Google to search for particular things such as 'Variable intake runners' for instance.

....just some tips :)

Flagrum i did check those guides a few weeks ago and read over them. However i couldnt find a intake manifold control valve.

This is whats up... CEL came on, i got it scanned at a local garage. Intake manifold control valve was the code that came up on scanner (red brick). I took the code to mazda and they said its ONE of the codes for the purge valve but their are several. Since the purge valve is one common thing to go i assumed it has to be the problem.

Symptoms: Rough idle sometimes, When switched to neutral and brakes jammed quickly engine will idle down close too 200 Rpm then rev back up normal, Hard starts after gas-up. D/C bat and engine light will come back on after 2 days.

These are all symptoms of purge valve. Ive done my reseach. So if the control valve isnt another word for purge valve, what exactly is the intake manifold control valve? Thats why i made this post, for a helpful reply :D

...and that's why I suggested searching! There is a valve(s) in the intake manifiold which control air-flow, which are in turn controlled by actuators, these valves work to 1. improve emissions and 2. to increase low end torque by either increasing or decreasing the air valocity to the combustion chambers.....if you search for Mazda Variable-length intake manifold you'll find a much better explanation then I can give you!

As for the Purge Solenoid Valve that's probably your most likely culprit cause as I mentioned it seems to be a common problem with our vehicles! I had mine go but with no symptoms at all.
