View Full Version : Wiper Arms Squeak

So... tonight was raining. And as I was driving, my wipers started to squeak. I didn't think much of it, thought my wiper blades were dirty or something (for the record, I use SilBlade FlexBlades).
When I got home, I turned on my wipers for a closer inspection and found that the sound came from the wiper arm hinge and not the blade itself. I verified this by operating the wipers while in the raised position.
The sound sounds like a squeaking of a dirty/old wiper blade but its not a problem with the blade. It sounds like it needs oil or something. Is there a way I can put some drops of WD-40 or something in there?
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

yea that happend to me, i just sprayed some wd-40 on the hinges at the 4 points and the sound hasn't come back and its been like a month and a half
wd40 is too thin.
My proposition is:
Remove arms from car.
Wrap these places tightly by electrical tape.
Fill gotten volume by most heavy oil you have (or mixture of engine oil and grease)
and to let them to stay some time. If grease thick, better in warm place.
Arms are removing quite easy. Plastic caps and nuts 12 or 13mm.
Here is couple of precautions.
Motor has plastic parts and you must to hold the arm when wrenching.
Before removing arms, better to mark wiper's position on window.
Use standard grease, do not use grease with molybdenum.

I had slight squeeking on my old car, i just sprayed some wd-40 and u and others said, it never squeeked from the arm again, what sas said should work too, sounds time consuming though
Yes, it is radical method.
It is my personal preference - to kill problem once and forever.
I have noticed, this way saves my time.

Not sure if it's the same squeak that I've got last year. At first, the dealer tried greasing it but the sound came back 2 weeks later:flaming. Then I've found this:

Hope this helps! :)
Yes.I didn't want to be too bore to recomend this procedure for pivots too.
After 7-8 years there is no any remaining lubricants, axes are rusting and killing plastic bushes. After 10-12 years this problem is guaranteed.
