I was there yesterday for my first oil change, awesome service! Definitely recommended - even if driving a little more distance is required :) Oh and also had a car wash for free, good stuff!!

Need to go have a talk with them. two things in the last few weeks have kind have caught me off gaurd.

Keep in mind that some have said They suspect me of working for QEW mazda because of all my positive feedback!

First: I was told that my girlfriends Mazda5 had its 48000km service - Includes tranny fluid. Looked at tranny fluid - Looks very old., Golden color. Can anyone confirm that Mazda3/5 tranny fluid is Red when new?

Second: They've been telling me to change my pads and rotors - However I couldn't afford to get them done at the dealer. The readouts that they make have been showing 2-3mm left on my pads for the last 3 checkups and I was told "I could last to the next oilchange" 3 times in a row. Well, I did the rear brakes this weekend, and there was 6mm!!! left on the pads. Not 2-3mm like their measurements said. I kept one of the pads from the change and will bring it in. My dad helped me out and kept asking me if I was SURE i'd never done the pads in 135,000km. (Isn't it amazing that I had 6mm left after 135,000km?!?) As well, they told me My rotors needed replacement - They did not, but I had the parts already for 3 months and replaced themanyway They were hardly worn at all (not even 1mm) Guess I drive like a grandmother - Or am very proficient at downshifting.

Going to go talk to them to find out what was up with the tranny fluid (hope its not a sign of a bad tranny on my GF's new (used) mazda5) and find out why their measurements on the Pad/rotor wear were so far off.

I'll update when I have news. Knowing QEW mazda - I'm sure they'll figure out what's up.
I miss Tiffany :-( She was awesome. The new guy walked right by me and didn't acknowledge my existance last time I was there.

Well I'm a complete and total idiot.
Looking at the previous service records for it's John boot got for me, I have miss read them. Aside from gaining one millimeter of tread, It shows that I have five millimeters left. We measured it together and I was just about six millimeters which is a Totally acceptable variance. I'm sorry to qew if I had made any negative impact your image. John boot handled all of this very professionally and all of my doubts have been resolved.

yay qew Mazda!

also transmission fluid in Mazda5 is every sixty thousand our as needed. explains fluid too.

I feel like an Ass and will be bringing timmies in next time i'm in for a service!

sorry and thank you guys!

Not necessarily iPhone or iPad for that matter. Some work computers don't have flash. Like our work computers for example. Not sure why I can't access it at work. Maybe silentjay can comment better.

So I took the car into QEW Mazda yesterday for a quick oil change and service. The staff were great, very friendly and I finally got to meet John. Service was completed, cookies were great and I'm on my way...was a little disappointed by the "exterior wash" since my rims are still caked in brake dust but it's free and at least the back isn't covered in soot anymore. However, I'm satisfied.
Got on the highway for a little bit but by Trafalgar I'm in stop and go traffic. It's then that I notice some smoke coming from the hood. My first reaction is "Cool, they washed the engine bay too!" figuring it might just be some evaporating water. Few more stop and go's and I'm still noticing the smoke when I stop. It's getting a little worse. I pull off the highway and pop the hood. Anyone guess what I find???
A repeating geyser of oil is shooting a foot up from my oil refill and the engine is soaked with it. The Oil cap is sitting right where the tech left it, sitting on the coolant reservoir. I turn the car off, replace the cap and take a quick look at the dip stick. It's low but I figure there is still enough in the system for me to limp it back to the dealership. When I arrive I grab John and bring him outside to take a look. His reaction is really good and this is where QEW Mazda really shines. I tell him I need the engine bay cleaned - BOTH the top AND bottom, to take the plastic off the bottom and rinse and wash that separately. I remind him to make sure the Intake filter gets covered (I don't want to insult anyone here, especially John, but at the time I kinda feel like if I don't tell themand make it really clear, they wont do it.)

I walk inside while John, the service manager and a tech look at the car. When the service adviser I dealt with earlier asked me what happened I tell her and a tech sitting at the desk about it. They both get a knowing look and quickly pull up the service order in the system and confirm what tech did the work. In unison they say "I knew it". Clearly there is a performance issue here. Mistakes happen and I'm understanding but clearly there is a performance issue here with a particular tech. I suggest they have my permission to fire the guy and they smile. I even said "mistakes happen" and the tech says "yes, but this one shouldn't have." I confirm with him that they have a check-list they follow but they don't have another tech do it. So I'm guessing some have the tendency to just check stuff off without actually checking it, only human. This seems normal through the industry, I can't tell you the number of times I've intentionally lowered my tire pressure and no one seems to notice. But it's checked off as fine on the work order!
Anyway, John comes in and creates a new work order for me. It includes what we talked about plus he adds a Gold Detailing package to my account (worth about $200) which is a very pleasant surprise. They also refunded me the cost of the service and I confirm that it will be a different tech working on the car this time.

I suggest we do a full oil change again since we are not sure how much has leaked-out but since I brought my own oil I'd need a loaner car to go grab another bottle. John says not to worry and sends someone to Canadian Tire to grab one and I'm off to the waiting area. Over the next hour or so I get regular updates from John about where it's at. When it's done John and the service manager (can't recall the name, Andrew maybe? i didn't deal with him much) came out to make sure I was satisfied. John tells me that they topped the engine oil level up and put 2 new bottles of oil in the car. The engine bay is clean, looks like they did a good job and I can't see anything on the plastic at the bottom so they cleaned that too. I take a quick look at the oil level and it's a bit beyond Max. (I didn't know at the time but that's too High)

I drive home park it and check the oil level again, It's well above MAX. So now I have another problem too much oil - which is almost worse then not enough since it can over pressurize the piston rings and then you are burning oil. A quick call to Jimmy confirms this.

And so I'm off to QEW Mazda again to have them drop the oil.

I feel really bad to keep bugging John about this. QEW Mazda has a fantastic rep and I've received great service from them before. They really exceeded my expectations on correcting this and never balked once when I asked for something. It was so good that I almost gave this post a Thumbs up! But the bottom line is that none of this would have happened if that tech wasn't careless.

..I've never been so thankful for traffic or I wouldn't have noticed this until the motor blew...

Wondering if i should have them do a compression test now to see if the rings are ok?

That is unfortunate what happened to your car !

I have nothing but praise for that Team.
I purchased my car from Brampton, but now that I live in Mississauga I drive all the way to QEW Mazda for my services.
They are all plesant to talk to. Now they added to the plesantness with newely hired Daniele. lol.
Speaking of John, last week I was there for the usual service for my car.
They called me after I was gone, to tell me the mechanic forgot to give me back the rest of the Syntetic oil they didn't use.
John drove buy that evening to hand me over the oil.
Great Custome Service: "Keep it up QEW Mazda. "

-UPDATE-

I returned to QEW Mazda the next day and showed John the oil level. He understood the risks right away and took the car in and tossed me the key to the shuttle so that I could go to the mall while they worked. They did a full oil change with filter and ran a compression test. Everything was fine and the comptest was higher then normal with means the rings are sitting well.

Mistakes will happen and QEW proved that they will own up and do MORE then is necessary to correct them. I'm still happy to take my car there...in a way how a company handles their mistakes is more important there the initial service but the 2 almost always go hand in hand.
