After installing 16" steel rims with winter tires, I find that the car sounds louder when I accelerate at low speeds. If I rev the car at a standstill, it sounds normal. Its only when I accelerate that I hear more of a rumble. I wonder if it has to do with the steel wheels "buffering" the sound from the engine as they have less of an opening as compared to the 17' mags?

Car is a 2008.5 GT....

its more of the tire thats making the noise.... thtas what you call tire noise, since the tread pattern is different from the ones you used to use for summer

My Gislaveds make some noise too. Mostly it is just a sort of barely audible hum but on some roads they really growl. There is one stretch near my house that is concrete instead of asphalt and it is really noticeable there.

Perfectly normal. No need to worry as you will get used to it.

I have Toyo Garritt HT's installed on my 16" steelies and they are pretty loud as well.

Excellent grip on ice and snow but much louder than my Eagles of my Falkens.

You shouldn"t worry about it.

My Hankook 411 Kingstars also make noise but its not that bad. The snow on the ground will probably change the sound it makes too.
