This has been on my mind for a while. Under what circumstances would the factory alarm go off? :
Broken window?
Kick/hard bang to the door?

Im thinking of getting an aftermarket alarm (interested in Viper) in the future.

Has anyone had any problems with it functioning with their Mazda 3? (ex. power locks not working, electrical issues, etc.) I know it all depends on the installer, but im just worried about the product compatibility with new model cars, since they are so computerized today.

I heard about door issue. The real chief, can easily to open the door
practically on any car, without any hitting.
I wrapped key by foil and tried to open door – without radio-label the
alarm remainig armed.
I’m very satisfied with work of oem anti-thief system, except weak alarm
sound. Here, in threads, was two-way alarm from one of the sponsor, looking not bad for me.

With the alarm set, if the window gets smashed, door kicked or you get backed into by another car, the alarm will not sound unless you have the upgraded shock sensor. The stock alarm will only sound if the door, trunk or hood(I think) gets opened from the inside while the car is armed.

So the alarm wont go off if someone tries to forcefully open the door from outside when its armed?

If they successfully open the door then yes it will go off. If they just try to get in but don't get the door open then no it probably won't go off. Unless you have the shock sensor add-on and then it will.

I bought my shock sensor from Mazda for $54 with tax, got a little discount, should be no more than $60.

Here is your installation instructions.. if you have a good idea about electrical, you'll be fine.
Care of CWP_Sedan, best instructions ever. Took me and my buddy about 20 minutes, just cause we had to differentiate all the colours for the different wires. Some look very alike, so be sure to tap the proper ones. We got lucky and nailed it on the first try. A white piece of paper behind the wire you want to check the colour of is the best thing, along with a good flashlight.

+1 :chuckle

They will charge you about $100 to have it installed because it's about an hour or so. It's probably one of the easiest things to install and I know that even some of the dealerships have messed them up!

Sounds like a reasonable price for the part. I shall look into it and see if I will go that route instead if I dont do any crazy visible mods that will attract theives. If I decide to throw on some rims, lip kit, and paint/vinyl graphics, I would feel more comfortable with a pager alarm. Thanks for the info, and great walk-though with the install!

If an alarm sets off, most will run away, or grab what is in sight and leave.
A pager or not, by the time you get out to where it is, if your at the mall for example, its too late.
The only difference I noticed with the OEM shock sensor is that I cannot lock the car as soon as I shut the last door, it has a 2 second or so delay, and if you push lock on the door, and shut it, it will not blink the parking lights for two or so seconds.
But it works like a charm. I have it set to almost full, and the slightest interior movement, such as opening the glove-box ever so easily, and it sets off (in case they actually manage to get inside). On the outside, its just perfect. You also want it set sensitive enough in case they try through the hatch, or rear-left door.
Also, if someone hits your car in a lot.

Best of all, it does not void your warranty. I've heard of some dealerships voiding any warranty on electrical for aftermarket alarms. Mine was almost canned on my Cobalt because I had a Viper alarm, even though it was installed professionally.
Check with your dealer, and make sure, that's all.
However, you CAN install the OEM shock sensor yourself without penalty to your warranty.

Thanks for the tip! The last thing I would want to do is void my warranty and argue with a dealer, i'd rather be safe than sorry. Now im leaning even more towards the shock sensor upgrade.

I know my frds brother got a Compustar pager alarm installed in is 08 Mazda 3, and one day he was driving his car on the road, and the entire electrical system stopped working. He has been without for at least 3 weeks now (the dealer has it for repair). I think its a major problem since its been so long. I don't know anymore to the issue, like if his warranty is going to cover it, what the problem is etc.. I do know that he took it to some crap ass mechanic to get it done, and not a proper place like Sidds Radio or Selective Sound.
