Hi guys. I recently purchased winter tires for my girl friend and i went to pick it up today and found out 2 tires were made from a different date from the other 2. Its not just 2 days or 2 months away.
2 tires were 26 week of 08
and 2 tires were made 24 weeks of 06.
My question is, is that acceptable? They told me they were ordered straight from toyo and if they don't think its ok they won't send it out. This set they told me was the last set and they will see if they can find 2 more that is made from 08 at least.
The tires are Toyo observe G02

Two year old tires? Probably okay... but if you keep them for four seasons they will then be six year old tires, which, if I recall correctly is getting up there in terms of safety. Plus, they have already had two years for the plasticizers to evaporate and the rubber to harden.

I just sold a set of tires off my GF's old car that had nearly full tread, but they were manufactured in 2005.
I figured since we have a new car which we plan to keep for 5 years or more, new tires were in order.

Call Toyo customer service directly and see what they say! :)
I would push to get 4 tires that have been manufactured in 2008. A 2yr old tire has just been sitting there for 2 years...personally I don't like that.

that's good to hear...it's a good thing that consumers are now aware of the manufacturing date on tires. Can you imagine how often stuff like this happened in the past (and much worse I'm sure). People were probably buying 'new' tires that were 5 or 6 years old if not more!! Sure the tread still looked good but no way is that a new tire.
