Hey guys,
I may be crossing the border next week for Black Friday. Not looking for anything in particular, but I may find a home theatre kit, flat panel tv, or anything like that.

Just wondering what your views are on purchasing big ticket electronics in the U.S.
Is it worth it? What about warranties? Are they immediately voided or can they be transferred to canadian repair facilities?

What about bigger comanies like Apple? If it buy and itouch down south, are there any differances btwn the itouches found here? Does the warranty cover all of North America?

Thanks~
Ray

Warranties: check the manufacturers website. Often gray market stuff warranties will not be recognized in other countries.

If the gear is made in the US, it falls under NAFTA, and no duty applies. If it is imported to the US, duty does apply. Things like phones... they are network-dependent, so make sure you get a CDMA or GSM phone that will work with your provider here.

Grey market is anything manufactured for one market but sold or brought in another (usually have slight differences like metric/imperial or color differences).

ITouch's are made in China.

You can find itouches for decent prices used on redflagdeals.com. Lots of people sell them there.

Unless you bought US dollars when ours was high, you'll get killed on exchange rates. So unless something in more than 30% cheaper there - just to break even - keep your $$ in Canada. :pop

Yeah and the way the economy is going wait for the big sales soon...nobody is buying anything right now, they're tightening their wallets, which means big incentive sales by the manufacturers soon!....crossing fingers anyways :chuckle

I hope this is the case, but dang, I don't know. I needed something at the CT (Warden / Eglinton) and holy crap, that whole area was PACKED. I couldn't believe how many people were shopping at CT. They had most of the cashiers open, and there was still a long wait to pay. The parking lot was full and long waits to get in and out of the lot.
