Sup y'all

its regarding my chicks 2005 gt sport with about 80000 km.

almost every time she fills her gas tank, it takes about 5 long cranks for the car to start. this has been going on once and a while for a few months. now the check engine light is on and she told me that once and a while at stop lights the rpms go really low and the car begins to bog.

any suggestions? fuel pump?

mazda wants 90 bucks for a diagnostics check...

thanks,

theurgy

Fuel pump, fuel filter... Has she tried getting a fuel system tune up?
What's the CEL she is throwing?

5 long cranks as in turning the motor over or cycling the key 5 times? Next time try turning the key in to the on position wait a few seconds for the pump to prime the car and then try starting. See if that helps or maybe the fuel filter is plugged

also when the key is turned on try to listen if the fuel pump is priming it is better to lift up the bottom seat in the rear to hear it

If she's getting a CEL then she has no choice but to take it in to get serviced, unless you have another way to read the code! ...and I would suggest not waiting too long or driving too long with the cel light on before getting it looked at also.

find someone with a code reader, dashhawk or cobb ap they will be able to connect to the car and find out what the code is...it would be cheaper then $90

Check you fuel cap, that can trip the light. Also check the MAF Sensor, maybe give it a good cleaning... Have you checked the air filter?
No air = poor running conditions! Also, as mentioned, fuel filter....

Really sounds like Fuel Filter to me. I would see if you can clean/replace it asap, as the fuel pump is probably struggling more than Rita McNeil would climbing the stairs of the CN tower. (I.E. Its gonna die)

Does she run the car until the fuel light turns on?

Well... an acquaintance of mine had her husband take her diesel Mercedes to Petro Canada and filled 'er up with Premium gasoline. Then cranked the car to start.

Anyway, just thought I share that.

As for your situation, I'm sure she's not filling it up with diesel, but a couple of questions. Does this problem occur if you fill up the tank 3/4 or 1/2?

Thats a symptom of a faulty perge valve. I really hope when you save around 80,000 clicks u ment under, cause warrenty is off at 80000 or 90000 cant remember. But perge valve isnt serious. Ive had my cel on for a month or so and i got it checked from mazda im just waiting for extra time to take it back to get fixed. Its an hours labour roughly.

yup it was the purge valve, good call. no warrenty on the part, had it fixed at a friends shop. i have given up on mazda dealerships i only take cars their for oil changes.

thanks for everyones help. good to know i can mooch of some of you guys for your dash hawks and what not in the future... bahaha.

pcm means powertrain control module, it's the computer for your car. When the software in your car computer doesn't work well, you car may not run well. :)
