View Full Version : Tiny White Spots on Front Windshield

Lately I've noticed that the windshield has these tiny white spots all over it. I actually first noticed them I finished washing my car. I can scratch some of these spots off. You can't see them unless you really look. The problem is these spots are deteriorating the rubber on my wiper blades and they start leaving streaks.
Has anyone else encountered this? How do I clean off the spots? I've tried windex but that doesn't really help.
Thanks,

I'm not sure if this would help but I always apply rain x to the outside of the window so that any water beads off and the wipers glide smooth.
You can get a bottle of it at canadian tire

Little white specs? Could be bits of ash, plastic, concrete....
I would try some different solvents: alcohol, mineral spirits, lacquer thinner... (keep the lacquer thinner off of your paint -- it will mess it up big time.).
If none of those work you could use a razor blade along with a bit of car-washing soap or dish soap as a lubricant. Though you do run the risk of scratching the windshield if you use a blade.

Uh.. keep razor blades very far away from your car, even glass.
I would try clay bar with lubricant (car wash soap or quick detailer).
Try a vinegar and water solution. It's possible the white stuff is an acid stain or water deposit.

razor blades won't scratch your glass if you are careful. I used to wash windows as a summer job while in university so believe me I know glass more than I ever wanted to. We often used to get called to newly built houses where the windows were absolutely COVERED in construction dirt. You name it, it was on there. Often there was cement all over the window and the only way to remove it was with a razor blade. We had a giant 5 inch scraper with a really sharp blade and we would wet the window and scrape away. No scratches. The key is wetting the window first with soapy water. This allows your blade to glide across the glass surface without scratching the actual glass.
Now I'm not necessarily saying you got cement on your windows but I'm saying that you can try removing whatever is there with a razor blade as long as you make sure the glass has been wet with soapy water first. Keep wetting the window as you scrape since the blade will remove the water as you pass it over the glass.
If you are worried about dropping the blade on your hood while you work on the windshield then cover the hood area with an old blanket first.
Good luck!!

I usually notice the white specs at night, especially since there's been so much construction on my routes to work.
Once a week I'll spray Stoners Invisible Glass on the windshield and use a squigee. Specs are gone after that.

Try Isopropyl alcohol first. For one thing, it's dirt cheap to buy in bulk amounts, and it is always what you get packaged with "high end" wipers as their special cleaning agent. If that fails to get the stuff off, then a NEW razor blade will do just fine, actually. Just don't use some unkown razor blade that's been kicking around your garage for months, etc. Older blades will NOT be sharp anymore, and will be more prone to sharp as the edge is actually broken down into a rough scratching surface.
Soapy water is also an excellent idea to promote ease of use.
