they're both pretty durable.
i beat the shit outta my 2.0L, and i've had no problems.
seems to be more the 2.3L tho, but i think there's been like, 2 people here with blown engines.
B was one of them and i think he spun a bearing or something, and Rally Playa was the other, however, i think RP sucked up water thru a CAI.

If you don't know why a member had blown an engine, use the search function.
Our rev limiter is below 8K.

Dude. I am 30. I don't drive like I am 21. I take it slow.
I think it's just inferior product. Just bought my first Mazda, and I'm not too happy. Now that I see there's people with blown engines, makes me even more upset.

you think people with Toyota, Honda and other car brands, never blew an engine?
Isn't there like 5,6 guys on this forum that it happened to? I understand if someone's got a turbo on it and something happens. But out of the blue?

Sometimes parts fail; other times, the engine is abused and beat up; still other times it's driver error.
Given the number of mazda 3s sold, 5-6 engines blowing isn't unheard of, nor should it be considered unusual. There are plenty of reasons why an engine would fail; after all they are full of moving parts that require great precision. Proper maintenance on a regular basis is often enough to prevent an engine from going up in smoke, but sometimes, things are missed.
