View Full Version : What type of Oil Filter fits my Mazda3

I am thinking of changing the motor oil by myself.
But I couldn't decide which oil filter should I purchase from canadiantire. :loco
It is a 2004 Mazda 3 GT 2.3L

i personaly would buy it from the dealer...once my car comes off warrenty i will be changing it my self and i will be buy my oil filters from the dealer.

CT doesnt carry our oil filters fot GT model and its a catridge type. Only mazda dealer has them

That's not true, I know for a fact that Parts Source carries them.

Well the only dealer that is in downtown Toronto is Downtown Mazda. Where do you live? MOT is midtown.
Costs about $60 plus tax for the parts.

Erinmills does it for $40 plus tax, 15 minute drive to save a bit of money!

my cars a 2.0 but i got a quaker state oil filter, from canadian tire and it fitted ...

Different filters. 2.0L is a spin on while the 2.3L is a cartridge type. You open the filter housing, remove the cartridge and replace. That's what Flipdady was talking about the conversion to spin on from cartridge.

if you decide not to do the conversion to a spin on filter be careful when changing the cartridge type oil filter, if you over tighten the plastic housing it might crack leaving you to lose oil. I think you need a special tool also to unscrew the bolt that holds the plastic housing also a torque wrench so you don't over tight or under tight. The conversion to a spin on makes it easier to change the oil etc.
