I just learned to drive MT when I picked up my car on Saturday and what i've noticed is that if i get off the clutch at the wrong time or i rev too high I get a faint waft of an arid metalic smell... am I imagining things or am I burning out the clutch?

Burning clutch has a sulfuric smell. Probably what it is. Go to a parking lot and learn to get the car moving without using the gas pedal. It'll teach you the feel of the clutch, and the position it grabs.

Are you resting your foot on the clutch pedal or something? Unless you're holding your car very briefly on a hill or something, if your foot is on the clutch pedal then you should always either be putting it all the way in, or in the act of letting it all the way out. If you're constantly slipping it for any reason, you'll wear it unnecessarily and eventually smell it burning.
