View Full Version : No Brakes
This has happened three times already , i steo on the brake pedal and the car doenst stop at all.
I went to my mechanic and he said that there could be some ice on the discs or the pads ..
Does this make any sense?
Today the weatheer ia warmer and it did the same thing .
I think that it has to be something else ....
Any sugestions on what it could be would be appreciated
Thank you
Its happened to me a couple of times but usaly its been snowing when its happened to me.

Ice on the discs? Never heard of the that. I sometimes get reduced stopping on the first brakeapplication if it is wet/slushy out, but that's it. But I've never "doesn't stop at all".... at least not on my 3*. The problem you describe smells like a master-cylinder or ABS modulator probelem.
The mechanic you use... is he at a dealer? Or at the very least a large shop?
In any case, personally I would be afraid to drive the car without getting the brake system inspected.
*Had the line to ABS modulator fail on a Dodge Caravan a couple of years ago when doing a hard stop on the 401 in heavy traffic.... with my entire family on board. Used up the entire very-large gap between our car and the one in front, and still would have smacked the car in front... the cars in front started to moving again.

definetly get your brakes checked..
I've had the brakes feel like they are not working on the first HARD braking after the discs have been wet. And a very scarey few days after getting it crowned (they got the rotors greasy :-S )
I find I pump the brakes a few times and the issue goes away quickly. One good hard brake warms them up and boils off any water on the pads/disc. Give it a shot! (just make sure you don't hit anyone, or that nobody is behind you, lol)

Yeah I'm finding on wet or snowy days, the first stop when driving out from the house you need to stomp on the brakes. The pedal doesn't go to the floor but it feels like I've got no brake booster (like on my dad's MGB). One stop clears up the pads and rotors though, they're good after that.

With all the snow and rain we've been getting and the huge puddles on the road I'd bet it's just a case of wet brakes! When driving in conditions such as these you just have to be more conscious and cautious about your brakes!!Leave more space between you and anyone in front and apply your brakes periodically to keep them warm and dry.

Mine is a 2005 mazda3 GS do they come with ABS ?
And it only happened after the snow started..

either cables snapped, break fluid leaking or maybe you're out..
You never ever get ice on disk breaks, even if you tried, you car would still stop, not "doesnt stop at all".

whatever you do, I would get the brakes inspected by a qualified mechanic to make sure there isn't a serious problem with your brakes. Never want to fool around with what is arguably the most important part of your car!

Shouldn't be brake fluid, since OP's issue doesn't seem consistent.
Car wash + cold temps = ice on rotors within 1 to 2 minutes. Or it could be soaked brakes like another member has said.
To see if it is ice/wet brakes: pump the brake 3 times, each time for a second or two (if you are going 20 to 40km/h, if you are going slower, hold it for longer). If by the 4th time, you still have no power, its something else.
Have your mechanic take a look at it again, (as Go_Habs_Go said).
If you are in the Toronto area, most of us will recommend you to see Jimmy at Street Performance.
I appreciate all the info .
Today is raining and the brakes are ok.
But i'm gonna get them checked out on monday.
Can anybody just confirm for me if the 2005 GS Sedan has ABS?

2005 GS Sedan has ABS if you have the Power Package (i.e. moonroof, 16" alloy rims, and ABS)

Let us know if they find anything! Still think it was just wet brakes but still curious!

let me know that what is this thrade all about.
I took my car to the mechanic today and he did a thorough check on all the brakes pads ,discs ,lines and the cables everything check out ok, we both went for a drive and we could never duplicate the problem .
Let see if it keeps on happening with the weather changes........

If it all checked out OK, then it would have to have been wet brakes, just use caution in very wet conditions and you should be fine.(especially after driving thru puddles etc;).
