As the others have noted 225/40/18 is perfect for the RX8 rims.

275 wouldnt really fit well on an rx8 rim...the rims are only 8 inches wide and like dentinger said, that tire is nearly 11inches wide. if somehow someone managed to mount these on the rims they wouldnt fit your car for sure and likely wouldnt fit an rx8 either. also, the steering response would really suffer because of how the tire would have to be mounted. also i would think it would be unsafe to drive on period. go for the 225s unless like dentinger also said, the seller was mistaken and their tires are 215s...although thats unlikely. i dont think anyone would put a narrower tire on their rx8. i sure as hell wouldnt. good luck. RX8 wheels always look awesome on 3s.

225 should be fine.
215 will stretch a bit (be a tad skinny)

the tire shop installing the 215s for you (if thats what you decide) will hate you. lol. they are gonna be really tough to get the bead to seat. i know, not really your problem. im just saying. haha.

225/45R18
if you really want to push it i have had personal experience with 235's on my car but that was pushing it. I had some minor rubbing when i was full lock left or right but other than that it was ok At the time i was running 235/45R17's. 235/35R18 would probably be your best bet but be prepared to send your rims out for repair every winter as they will be more likely to bend because of the low profile.
this comming summer i will be running 225/40R18's up front and 225/45R18's in the rear

ah, i havent had too much experience mounting narrow tires on wide rims. once i did a set that was like 215/75r16s on a truck where i worked before. the rims were like 7.5" wide and there was no way in hell off getting the bead to seat normally. we ended up *warning, dont try this ever!!* spraying a hole bunch of brake cleaner inside the tire and rim and lighting. the explosion/rapid burning that followed inflated the tire, popped and seated the bead, and made everyone on the block deff. then the fire burning inside the now mounted tire started to eat up all the oxygen and the tire looked like it was gonna turn inside out while mounted on the rim. lol. then we had to fumble with the air line and put enough air inside the tire to flood it and put the fire out. it was scary to be honest with you and i hope i never have to do that again. also, like i said, never try this. there are sooooo many reasons not to. so many chances for bodily harm, hearing loss, damage to the rim/tire. my heart was pounding and that was only 1/4 done. lol. it was an interesting night to say the least. i would never do that on a customers tires. it was for the owners vehicle and he understood the risk to both his tires and employees. haha.

That size fits fine at stock ride height. That's what I am running.

I also argue the fact when people say they will fit stock height, but rub when lowered. If they rub lowered, they can rub at stock height as well if you hit a large enough bump. Mine have never rubbed.

Shouldn't really rub, I'm running those on pro-kits which is about the same drop and never had any issues

225 wide on prokits will rub only if you do full wheel lock. which is usually when you do U-turns, 3 point turns, etc.

forward and normal driving i haven't had any problems

just reading this thread im glad i went with 215, although i only have 17-inch rims so i could have easily gotten away with 225 though, c'est la vie! Just go with what other members have mentioned already as everyone has had their bad experiences and willing to share so you don't make the mistakes they did :)
