View Full Version : KSport springs question?

I'm looking at getting a set of these springs for my car (04 GT sport) & can get them for a good price, but I have heard from 2 people that they found that the springs they got didn't fit on the struts (OEM's) properly the same as the OEM or Eibach springs.
I was told that the front springs seemed that they were a little to narrow (thin) and didn't seem to sit flat at the bottom of the strut (the coil wasn't flat on the bottom) and then rear ones were a bit too wide & also didn't seem to sit right on the base of the strut. The car in question was a 08 GT sedan with OEM struts.
Just wondering from anyone else that is using or installed a set of ksports if you found you had to mod anything to get them to fit properly or is the set above a bad set?

The suspension components have likely not changed between the 04 and the 08, so i would expect you to have the same fitment issues.
I don't think anyone else here is running Ksport; TheUrgy said he bought a set, but I never heard anything further on them.

I don't know if I'm one of the ones you're referring to about having that issue with the K-sports. I had Jimmy of Street Performance install mine, and he mentioned that the springs were slightly small on the front spring perches (probably less than 1mm smaller). However when he compressed the springs (i.e. on the spring compressor to put the top nuts on) the springs seated just fine. I haven't had any issues after that either. So it may be that K-sport winds there springs a bit tight in terms of diameter, but it doesn't cause any real problems during the installation, or afterwards.
Mine is an '07 with OEM struts BTW.

Yeah I do have the Ksport springs and never installed them, RNUOVR is inquiring from me about getting them.
Aitch.. I thank you for the input on this. I had traded in my previous 07 Mazda3 for the Mazdaspeed3 before getting the chance to install these springs.
I had tried selling them to a local member and when they went to install them they told me they wouldn't fit. I had to fork back the cash they paid me... and then e-mail Ksport with my issue. I had taken pictures and even so much as took measurements and they confirmed that they were in fact the springs for a Mazda3.
I've had these springs in my storage for 2 years now uninstalled.

No problem. Like I said, they may appear to not fit correctly but all it takes is a spring compressor and they seat themselves.

Good to hear, I guess my next question is how have your spring been treating you?
Are they a decent cosmetic drop?

That's what I thought... we have a set of club owned spring compressors available on loan for our members.. so I don't think that'll be a problem.
Apparently the member that had the issue the last time, checked with our dealership and they informed her that in 07+ the part number for the springs are different. Not sure how that affects anything but it could be a reason why it's tight for the later model years.

I'm more inquiring about the feeling and stiffness.

I can't comment on the feel compared to other springs as I actually haven't driven any other setups. However I think they're a great spring for the street. You immediately notice a stiffer ride, but it is by no means unbearable (and I'm the type of person that doesn't like a race-car ride for a daily driver, for myself or my fiancee!). They do reduce body roll, and the progressive nature of the spring means they're able to be a bit softer initially but still provide a nice controlled ride, without being overly harsh. Just because they're not linear doesn't mean that there are any problems with it being unpredictable while driving on the street.
