Well I have posted a few of these pictures before, but I figured i should put the collection in one spot. Some turned out well, while others are not so strong, none the less they are interesting.

The one with the snow falling I assume is two flashes? Nice crosslighting.

The shot under the hood is very well done too!

Ya the snow shot has only two. I wish my D70s would let me use my master flash as not only a slave, but also to add light to the picture. I had one flash the right of the camera about 3 feet away and the other flash on the right side of the camera on the far side of the road. Both flashes were set to full power.

The under the hood picture was also two flashes. One under the far side of the hood with a diffuser and the other to the left of the camera basicaly facing my back.

I was in Toronto this past weekend and was promptly reminded how I don't miss the weather there.

Clear sunny skies and around 70F (21C) today. =)

Take 9th concession east bound (lots of curves!)
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=&ie=UTF8&ll=44.030037,-78.784933&spn=0.041469,0.123596&z=14
Then get off 9th just past highway 57 and take grasshopper park road north bound
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=&ie=UTF8&ll=44.043242,-78.75412&spn=0.04146,0.123596&z=14
make a right onto 10 concession road heading east and it will turn left into Avery road heading north
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=&ie=UTF8&ll=44.069395,-78.727341&spn=0.041442,0.123596&z=14
Take a right at moutjoy road and follow that road east bound untill you hit Manvers- Scuggog town line making a right, heading south bound.
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=&ie=UTF8&ll=44.084749,-78.711977&spn=0.020715,0.061798&z=15
That road will end up meeting with 9th concession again for the trip home.

I have not driven any on these roads in the summer yet so I have no idea what they are normally like. During the winter they are an awesome drive as there are many sweeping turns up and down hill along with lots of snow covered trees. Just be sure to take it slow and be cautious as the roads are not plowed as often as the main ones. Be safe and have fun.

The roads are dead, no one for miles, it was done with twin flashes.

On a side note:
One car went by at night and I thought it was my car so I took a picture. All my flashes went off and the car pulled over about 50m down the road. He jumps out (by this time I realize it was not my car) and panics saying what the hell!!!! He then sees me and asks if I had saw the big blue flash in the sky, he thought it was a UFO or a plane crash of some sort. He calmed down pretty quickly when he realized it was just a few remote flashes. Honestly from his perspective I could understand being scared shitless. One night you are driving in the middle of nowhere, no homes for miles and are in the middle of a forest (no lights at all on this road). Out of nowhere your whole car is just engulfed by light! It was the only car that drove by all night and I managed to mistake it for mine haha!

(please note the flashes are not "blinding" at night as they are of the same output as my headlights. When they go off you can see the road perfectly and it just looks like you have really powerful headlights for a few moments. If they were blinding to drivers I would not be able to take the shot in the first place.)

I'm not familiar with Nikon's flash system as I'm a Canon guy myself. Are both external flashes Nikons as well? And are you triggering them via CLS? I thought some Nikon flashes had optical slaves, which would trigger off an on-camera flash, but also that the CLS would let the on camera flash work while using off camera flashes.

On a D80 or other Nikons your camera flash can be set to not only act as a slave but also be used to light the picture. You can independently set all the flashes (in the built in camera flash) to their own power in the camera. With the D70s all the flashes have to be set to the same power in manual mode and the camera flash is only a slave, not adding to the picture at all. I really need my ebay slaves since i can then set each flash manualy (don't need to be the same) and I dont have to worry about range like I do in every picture I take currently. CLS is a nice built in feature, but dam its annoying when you want to light your picture one way, and it wont let you.

Its funny my friend got out of my car after I took that shot and said that the other two runs were at 45 and then this one was at 60km. Your bang on.

i know some things but not enough haha. and if he had a slow shutter speed that would work. but how did he manage to get the inside of the car so clean. unless it was a supper nice road with absolutely no bumps and had a tripod set up in the car or someway of the camera not moving at all. thats the only way i can think of it right now

Terrible3

I put my tripod in the back and used the seat belts to lock it down. I then drove as smoothly as possible down the main street of my town. I cant remember off the top of my head what the shutter was set to but I think it was 30 seconds.
